That's the very point Gregor...I'm very worried about not be granted with a partial scholarship, so cutting tuitions...Let me share with you all a personal thought. Do you think scholarships can be granted, besides merit and financial need, on the courses you choose / focus? Trying to better express myself, as you're more likely to make good money studying corporate and/or tax law, do you think students focusing on public law/ human rights are more likely to receive financial assistance while at school? thanks!

Hey stagista11,
i think the universities will not differentiate between students studying in different fields. Most LLMs do not have a specialisation anyway so I doubt they will take that into account.
If I get offered a place in a good uni (e..g harvard, yale etc) and I cannot afford it, I will investigate the possibility of deferring so I can make another year of income before attending. How about you? :) Think you'd be the same!
Cheers,
Greg

No easy money Gregor. I probably would need a get-away driver though...

room for one more in your plan? Honestly, I'm quite lucky, as I can ask my parents to help me out borrowing me money, but not all the $ 55/60.000 necessary for tuitions and life expenses. this is a further reason for which I didn't choose to apply to either CLS or NYU, as they're are very unlikely to grant scholarship to LL.M students...

Stagista11,
you sound exactly like me in terms of university applications! I didn;t apply to CLS either (also left out SLS, UVA) where there is limited financial aid :(
whereabouts are you from?

Just a thought (regarding Gregor side note).
Imagine:
1) John Doe is a good candidate, but need financial aid.
2) ABC Law School is top 50 Law School (but no a top 15) and got money but lack of good candidates.
Maybe John should apply to ABC Law School, and, since he is a good candidate, they will offer him a lot of financial aid, since they (the Law School) will be more than happy to have him as an student.
There are many Law Schools that are no top 15, but they are among the best in certain fields (i.e Pepperdine in Dispute Resolution, Yeshiva University (Cardozo) and Franklin Pierce in IP, etc.), so, if you need money, why not apply to a Law School that will give you financial aid because they will be proud of having you as an student?
Fortunately, I have the money, but, if my idea could help someone, I will be very happy.

This is a good point Jenny, but you cannot expect to impress anybody showing a LL.M carried out in a average school...I do really need also the brand top universities can offer. But, supporting your point of view, I can tell that last year I've been accepted by 3 schools ranked between 16th and 34th, and I got scholarships from each one of those, starting from $ 15.000...anyway, let's wait and hope in the schools I've yet to hear from...

Stagista,
Why you don't take a look to the US News Specialties Ranking?http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/grad/law/index.html#
I do not trust personally in rankings, but, lets imagine the worst: You don't get an scholarship in a top 10 Law School but you get an scholarship in a highly specialized Law School. Then, you can put in you resume "LLM at Pepperdine Law School (ranked #1 in Dispute Resolution)"
If you call them, maybe you can even get a fee waiver and avoid to pay the $75. Nothing to lose
My best wishes to you.

Thanks Jenny for your suggestion - I think it is a legitimate one. Unfortunately, I agree with Stagista on this - not many people would be impressed with a LLM from a Tier 2 - 3 University, even if they are ranked number 1 in a certain specialisation. If I am not impressed, how do I expect others (i.e. employers) to be?
Of course, I agree with you that these schools generally have scholarships available for the minority of talented law graduates who do not want to follow the crowd and apply to "Harvard/Yale" etcetc! If i were in US and located near Pepperdine (or any other T2-T3 schools), I might apply to them in order to be nearer to home. However, if I am coming all the way to US for studies, then like Stagista, I would prefer to be enrolled in a top university.
I guess this "all or nothing" mindset isn't too positive but I already have an Australian LLM so I am doing out of interest and desire to experience studying in an Ivy League university and also to progress into a SJD program (which most T2-T3 universities do not offer).
Regardless, I am sure there are many other readers who will, after reading your post, adopt the route you have suggested because it is a very legitimate one!
Good luck!
Cheers,
G

I don't think anybody who applied NYC only has been accepted so far, at least as far as I know.
I wrote an email asking for that and they came back to me with the old saying:
"LL.M. applicants who meet the December 1st deadline will be notified of the Committee on Graduate Admissions decision on in early to mid-March. The decisions for the NYU@NUS program will be communicated on a rolling basis through January... "
Even Columbia has been releasing the decision. What the hell is NYU doing? They will lose a lot of excellent applicants for their retarded action.
I see that there are at least more than 5 ppl who has got their admission offer for the NYU@NUS program (pls see the thread).
My question is does NYU release all the offer at once or will there be another cycle through January? I haven't got anything from NYU to this date. Is there still any hope or should i just forget NYU?
Because according to Brightest in another thread, one way to identify whether you're admitted or not is to log on to the NYU admission website; if you can't log on it means you're not admitted. Is that really the case? Coz if it is, it means that there will be no other admission cycle for the program.
Thanks much for your response.
Dear bssb80, I think there is some confusion here.......that website is only for students who've been admitted to nyu@nus and NYU@NYC both and if u have applied only to nyu@nyc then ur decisions are yet to be out......so dont worry and even for nyu@nus applicants, this is not the whole sole criteria(to login and see whether u r in or not)....it might be the case that the website is still in the process and there are many students whose accountsa are yet to be made......so dnt worry.....and just an obiter statement for bssb80, I am not "He"....i'm "She"....just to correect you....hope you didnt mind.......all the best.....

Dear all,
Does anyone know if I should still be waiting for a complete application email from UPenn even though all the received documents boxes are checked on their status check webpage?

Hello fellow LLM candidates,
This is my first post to a thread on this site. I just wanted to join in on the misery we feel during this period. I wish all of you the best.
Unfortunately, I have already received a rejection letter from my "safety" school - Fordham. I graduated #1 in my class with a J.D./M.B.A., law review, moot court, published law review article, judicial internship, etc., and still I was not admitted. I only hope Fordham is 'smoking crack,' or that there is some other irrational reason I was not admitted, because if there is a rational reason, I seriously doubt I will be admitted into NYU or CLS.
Truthfully, though, I believe a major factor that will affect all of us is there drastic increase in the number of applicants for LLM programs this year as compared to previous years; moreso, the fact that many of these applicants are attorneys from big law firms who have been laid off due to the financial crisis and realized that this is the best time to get a "specialized" education. This equals heavy competition for all of us.
At the end of the day, I am a very optimistic person, and believe that all of us will find our way one way or another. With that in mind, good luck to all.

akgk09: Where are you from? You seem to have a decent background. Are you from the US or Canada? Some universities tend to accept less American or Canadian applicants. Do you have any professional experience other than the judicial internship?

Amicus,
I also worked full-time at a law firm prior to law school, spent a sememster at FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority), and had a summer associate position this past summer. I also completed more than 300 hours of pro bono work during law school.
I don't know what more I could have done except worked a few years before applying to the LL.M. programs. Lets see what happens.
