Results are out.

I’ve been placed on a priority reserve list. Does anyone know what that means?

What is the maximum scholarship offered by MIDS? Is it full tuition or full tuition+living expenses? Also what percentage of financial aid applicants receive such funding?

Hi. Should we consider making a WhatsApp group for the MIDS admits 2024-2025?
With the deadline to accept the offer approaching, it might be helpful to have a quick get introduced or share any concerns.

Hello everyone,
This may not be directly related to the current discussion, but I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could help answer my query.

I am planning to apply to the MIDS programme within the next two years and would like to know more about their GPA expectations. While the website states there is no minimum GPA requirement, it does mention that good grades are essential. I am on track to graduate with a 2.1 (3.4-3.6 GPA), though I do have some modules in my transcript that fall below this level. Could this potentially affect my chances of being admitted to the programme? Has anyone here, or someone you know, been admitted with similar grades?

I have already emailed the admissions department regarding this query but unfortunately they have not yet replied back to me. Thank you in advance.

Hi a1!

I've applied to MIDS a few years ago and got admission with a full scholarship (I ended up going to Harvard for my LLM, though).

Usually, schools will have different thresholds for applicants from different countries. For international programs, the adcoms are typically quite knowledgeable about the grade systems around the world, especially for countries from where they get a lot of applicants.

I'd also say that grades are a bigger challenge for scholarships rather than admission. You might get admission, securing a full scholarship can be hard.

As someone who's been on the admissions committee (at the European University Institute) and regularly talks to representatives of law schools in my capacity of the admissions consultant, I've got to say that the universities are very unlikely to disclose they grade thresholds to applicants.

The reason is that it is in the school's interest to encourage as many people as possible to apply, because it increases the competitiveness of the program and positively affects their reputation.

On the other hand, grades are the only quantitative part of the application, and each application is assessed holistically. In the same vein, for international programs applicants are usually evaluated against other applicants from the same country (not everybody in the same pool).
This means that even if you grades are below the standard threshold, you'll have a higher chance of success, and other parts of your application are important.

I write a lot about the LLM application process, you can read about it on my website (link in the bio).
I also have a guide on the core components of an LLM application and the relative weight of each.

Hope it helps and good luck! ;)

Thank you so much for the insightful reply Daria.

You have mentioned in your reply that universities look at applications holistically, and that matters a great deal to me as I got diagnosed with 2 different disabilities while studying for my undergrad. I believe that as a result, it took a toll on my grades to a certain extent. I have not started applying to LLMs as of yet, so I'm unsure as to how it works, but how do you suggest I disclose such information to the admissions committee? Does the admission portal have a section where mitigating circumstances can be mentioned? Or would I have to email the university and let them know of my circumstances?

Thank you once again!

One of the places you could use to tell about this is the motivation letter. Since you'd usually talk about your academic excellence in it, it could also be pertinent to let the admissions committee know what might have impacted it.

Another way to go about it would be to write a separate (short, about half a page) document to accompany the application - but you should check if MIDS allows attaching additional documents.
In the American context, it is called an addendum to the application but unfortunately it's not very common in Europe.
