I'm working on my application for Cambridge LLM, Oxford, and a few other UK/US LLM programs. I'd like to eventually teach law school. I'm a bit of a mature student and have had a career as a lawyer, practicing around the world with the U.S. government. I did OK (but not top 10%) in law school, but have two more recent non-law Masters degrees, including one in 2022 for Sustainability at Harvard. I did very well (3.9s) in the more recent Masters programs but not sure how much those will be weighted against my earlier JD from years ago. My sense is American LLM programs weigh-in more on experience but not sure about the UK programs. Any general advice from those who were accepted in recent years or from those similarly situated?

I haven't applied yet but I'll soon. Currently I'm wondering wheter I should use 2 academic references or 1 academic and 1 professional reference. My boss just knows me much better than my undergrad tutor...

In my opinion, you should do 1:1. I know from experience that you will be fine.

Concur, a 1:1 approach would make the most sense if you have practical experience.

Thanks everyone! I'll go with a 1:1 approach

Has anyone made a group? Also, how have you listed your college preferences? Can someone give me more information on which college to list if I am interested in studying IP.

I think most of the group chats via LLM guide are only made after the offers have been handed out in Feb/March of the following year. If someone else knows otherwise, please let me know, but as far as I am aware, colleges do not have a correlation with particular areas of the law.

Just submitted my application, now the tense wait to make sure my referees actually bother to submit the references. My personal tutor has already missed the first Edinburgh deadline. 8 days till deadline, best of luck everyone!

Also, did the career options and additional information sections throw anyone else off? It was not mentioned anywhere else on the website as far as I saw.

Yeah I was surprised to see them. But it seems like an advantage in the additional information section just write anything that you felt like inappropriate to write in the PS, or leave it blank it wont disadvantage your position tho. Also about the career goals just summarize it from the PS as i assume you did write about how the LLM gonna improve your career goals or will serve your goals. so just summarize it and you gonna be fine. Also, did the career options and additional information sections throw anyone else off? Yeah, I had an academics section of my personal statement but it seemed to forced, so I just switched that to the additional information and did exactly what you suggested for the career goals section. Someone from my university who got into the LLM for the 2023-24 round told me she left the additional information section blank, so clearly it's not necessary to fill it in.
