Edinburgh Law School was established in 1707, and for over 300 years we have trained some of the world's finest legal minds. Now in its fourth century, the School is larger and more diverse than ever.

Edinburgh Law School, Old College

In November 2014, Edinburgh Law School launched one of the most ambitious projects ever seen in its 300-year history, the refurbishment of Old College. The design reflects the needs of a modern-day Law School and provides world-class study and research spaces, dedicated social spaces and a spectacular new Law Library.

The Old College Refurbishment Project has transformed the Law School’s premises at Old College into a 21st century home for the School, celebrating and preserving the heritage and history of Old College.

We are an international and forward-thinking law school. Our staff are leading contemporary thought across the spectrum of legal scholarship and our research has influence and impact both locally and globally.

Our student community is diverse and inclusive, broadening the horizons and enhancing the prospects of those who join us. The School currently has over 300 master's students from across 52 countries studying with us on campus and a further 200 studying with us all over the world, through our online learning LLM programmes.

Our programmes are delivered by academic staff who are experts in their field. Our postgraduate provision is research-led, with a focus on real-world relevance. This means that whichever path of study you choose, you can be confident that the course material is drawn from the most up-to-date research available. Old College Quad

We require a minimum of a minimum UK 2:1 honours degree, or its international equivalent, in law or social science. Law, or a heavy component of undergraduate law, is preferred for many of our programmes but there are some programmes that accept students from a wider range of study backgrounds. Please check the specific entry requirements for the programme you're interested in.

Please note that entry to our programmes is competitive and meeting the minimum requirements for consideration does not guarantee an offer of study.

Edinburgh Law School is a vibrant, diverse and international Law School.
