hey all.....I just wanted to confirm one thing....whether NYU sends two emails like HLS or just one email....i mean I just got one email on October 23 stating that they have received my application and it is complete.......i hope this is the only email you guys are talking about.....correct me if I am wrong......

here is some more input. Just as "brightest" I received 3 days ago an e-mail with the following content:

"Dear Applicant,

This email is to inform you that your application to NYU School of Law is complete and will be submitted to the Committee on Graduate Admissions for review. Should the Committee require any additional information, we will contact you at this email address.

You may receive periodic communications from New York University via this email address. We strongly encourage you to check this email account often for updates and information regarding your status as an applicant within the School of Law.

If you have any questions regarding your application, please feel free to contact the Office of Graduate Admissions via email at law.grad.moreinfo@nyu.edu "

First, I thought that this e-mail was specifically addressed to me since I submitted all my materials by Dec 1 online, but my recommenders took some time (until about 7 days ago) to submit their recommendation online.

When I looked at the address though, it states that the e-mail is written to: "law.grad.moreinfo@nyu.edu" , so this e-mail should have gone out to a number (all?) of applicants.

Having said this, I don't believe that no confirmation is a bad sign. Still, you guys should probably send an e-mail request.

Btw: As I stated above, I applied online, am a foreign trained law student and used LSAC.

For those of you who are concerned about not having used LSAC, i believe that your fears are unfounded. I received my confirmation email some time back despite not having used lsac. The committee must be really busy. Im sure they will get back to you soon. Merry Christmas

Dear All.....Has anybody heard from NYU@NUS regarding the admission decisions.....last year they started giving admissions in December itself....but this year they have not yet started............any idea?????

Just to let you know that I tried to call NYU today regarding the (yet to be received) confirmation e-mail... and got their vocie mail.

Apparently the Admissions Office will be closed as of today, until January 5th... which is not very good news: more waiting for us!

Anyways, is anyone still waiting for this e-mail? It's been nearly 1 month 1/2 for me now, since I sent my supporting materials!!! In my opinion, it's incredibly long...

In the meantime, I wish you a merry Christmas!!!

i am disappointed by their extremely low efficiency too. At this moment of Last year they had at least released some admission for NUS related application. Right now even CLS released their early review admission. Do they think they are more competitive than CLS?

I agree......last year they even had a get together of the admitted students to NYU@NUS in first week of january in their respective countries....i mean i know atleast about India coz one of my friends got in and he went for that get together in india on January 4, 2008 if i'm not wrong......and this year nobody has even heard from them......hey i had a little confusion.....if an applicant has applied for both NYC (NYU at NY) and Singapore (NYU@NUS) then will the decision for both the things be declared simultaneously or not..........

Alright guys.. I have still not received any confirmation mail from NYU. Is there anyone else in the same position?

I have applied to quite a number of universities and can say that NYU was the fastest in terms of telling me my application was complete. I have applied for the JSD program but am guessing the same office handles all graduate programs.

May be wise to check with NYU!

Same situation here. I sent my supporting documents around mid Nov.. and still no confirmation!!!!! But 2 friends of mine who sent their application in late Nov are in the same situation. I think that NYU is overwhelmed, that's all... I hpe so at least...
I sent an e mail to the Graduate Admissions Office, and they told me that I should wait, and that they will send me an e mail anyway, either to confirm that my application is complete, or to list all missing documents.

Dear All....I just wanted to tell you that i have recieved a reply from NYU....i have been offered an admission to NYU and NYU@NUS both but no scholarship for NYU at New York City....for nyu@nus I have received us$35000 scholarship which they offer to everyone.....slightly confused as to what should I do....have anyone else heard anything???????

I had the same problem. NYU should have received my application materials early in November. In December, I wrote an e-mail in order to ask whether my package has been received. However, I only got an e-mail stating that questions regarding the status of applications will not be answered. Before some days, I called NYU and explained that I have not received any e-mail since two months. So, the staff member checked the status of my application and told me that an e-mail has been sent to my account early in November confirming the receipt of the application materials. Unfortunately, I have not received this e-mail and I really hope that I will receive the next e-mail from NYU...

Therefore, I recommend calling NYU and explaining your situation. Probably, they have also sent to you the confirmation e-mail but you have not received it.

I think the e-mail they're talking about is just the email acknowledging receipt of the online application. As stated in their website, "applicants will be able to confirm the receipt of a letter of recommendation that is submitted through the NYU School of Law online recommendation service."
All the rest is done electronically, so my interpretation is that their acknowledgment of receipt is the only information you get.
Brightest, congratulations on being offered admission! I did not expect that some decisions would be taken so early!If I were you, I would tell them I am waiting for the results of other schools to get back to them...did they indicate a deadline for accepting the offer?
Also, can you clarify about the confirmation e-mail, if the interpretation above is correct? Did you get a second e-mail, or just the one right after submitting your application?

Thanks....ya they gave me a deadline and that is January 23, 2008 which I dnt think can be deferred.........so i have to take a decision.......and your interpretation is correct.....you will just get an email when your recommender submits the recommendation online confirming that your recommendation letter have been received.....i think this is what they mean.......I just got one email for application complete and this email for offer of admission.,......

That depends. I did not register my recommenders online. Accordingly, the first e-mail confirms that the electronic application has been received and the second e-mail states that the apication is complete.

Brightest congratulations! It must be great to have heard from them so early on. Yet I think your deadline of 23 January is very very early and unfortunate. I think I remember reading in one of these posts that you applied to various other schools. If I were you, I would write e-mails to these schools asap to inform them of NYU's deadline, asking for the early review of your file.

As for your decision between NYU@NYC or NYU@NUS+35000, I think the answer depends on your financial situation and priorities. Of course everyone can "use" an additional 35000, yet do you "need" it? If you don't need it (based on my perspective and priorities) living in NYC for a year is a far better option. If NYU accepted you so early, you must have excellent creditentials anyway, so you will sooner or later earn moneys that will dwarf this 35000. Why not choose living in the infamous big apple for a year?

One question I have, I would presume you will have to submit a deposit (USD 500?) and a statement by the 23rd. I remember reading in the previous years' posts that NYU's statement includes wording to the effect that you are withdrawing all your applications to other schools. Does the statement you have to agree also include such a wording? If not, in the worst case scenario, you may submit the deposit and wait for the answers of the other schools. If another school, better suited for you, grants you admission, then you accept the offer of this other school at the expense of only your deposit at NYU.

In any event, congratulations because of this great achievment of yours! :)

Well, my interpretation is that you receive a confirmation that the letter has arrived only if you submit it online. Otherwise, you will not be notified. This is perhaps because the whole application process for NYU LLM is online, and it's probably much more difficult for them to retrieve an applicant's contact email when they receive just a paper letter of rec. (although I am positive that they will link the letter to the application at a later stage). This, of course, is still just my interpretation. Please feel free to let me know if something makes you think I'm mistaken.

Thanks guys for your replies and big congrats to Brightest. Can I ask from which university in India you did your graduation? I believe you should be sad for your Jan deadline. CLS and HLS are not gonna bring you decision by that time I believe.

I have mailed NYU 2 days back, I'm sure I should receive a reply either today or tomorrow. I submitted my application in late Nov. for which I received the successful online submission at that moment itself. As my recommenders sent their recommendations independently, it makes me even more worried as I already received the 2nd mail from Harvard that they did not receive my recos.
