In at NYU as well - it has been a good admissions season for me. So they are still sending admissions out for people still waiting (mine came in overnight in Aisa Pacific).

jw, I got the package today, no letter for the scholarship, but it's strange that there was no mention of me being rejected for it either. Please let me know what your admission package says. I hope you get good news about Dworkin. I'm devastated that I did not get it. I was ranked #1 in my class at U of London and recieved a first class degree, and clerked for a high court justice. They must be looking for a superhuman or something...

No scholarship for you with those crendentials? I won't expect anything for me when I get the package then...

JDI: Sorry to hear you did not get the scholarship. But it sounds as if you're a top candidate. The Dworkin is a tough competition, as I understand it. With those credentials, I also think you would have been quite close to landing one of the other scholarships, the Grotius or Vanberbuilt. Do you have any publications? I think schools, at least at the graduate level, put a primium on publishing and scholarship: if they're going to pay your way, they want you to carry the school's name on with innovative work. The tough part about this, of course, is finding the time to publish so early in our careers.
As for me, my package did not arrive yet. I think I missed the UPS guy this morning, as I left quite early for work. However, I can assure you that I will not have any good news about the Dworkin as I was not eligible for it! (I'm Canadian).

When schools make scholarship (admission as well) decisions, they make mistakes...They always do. Hope JDI will not feel so bad about it...

Hi, regarding the other post, I didn´t use the LSAC - I decided to take my chances based on the fact that a friend of mine got admitted last year without using it. Seems that this was no handicap after all...

Congrats to all the NYU LLM'07 admitted applicants!! Good luck for all the rest that are still waiting. I have been accepted also, and I was quite surprised to find in the letter of admission the following:
"In addition, the Committee on Graduate Admissions has determined that you are eligible for one of our prestigios merit scholarships -the Dean's Graduate Award in the amount of $10,000- given to a select group of extraordinary applicants..."
I didn`t request to be considered for this scholarship, but you can imagine is not an unpleasant suprise. I guess my question to all of you is whether this kind of offer is made to all students (have any of you guys received one?) as a sort of "merchandising trick", or do you believe this is truly a serious offer?
I would so much appreciate any help with the questions above.
Regards.

I guess it is... I haven´t read about such scholarship in NYU´s web site, so I guess it should be something extraordinary... and pretty serious, I guess... Being that said, congratulations for it!

LLM-MEX: Obviously it's a serious offer or it would not be in the letter. It's not surprising that the Graduate Committee would have a certain amount of discretionary funds beyond the bigger scholarships to offer to certain candidates.

jw, you are probably right, although my credentials are good (grades, teaching experience, judicial clerkship, president of class) I have not published anything to date. Still, it's strange that the package didn't even acknowledged the scholarship by including a rejection letter.
rippy, any news on your Dworkin scholarship?

Re LLM MEX
I think NYU is pretty serious about it. I still have n't received my packet and I sure do hope I also have something like that awaiting me. Congrats!

@LLM-MEX
With regard to the 10,000 $ scolarship, (Deans schoalrship), you do not need to apply (independently): whoever applies is eligible for the same. The criteria is a lot less demanding than the Hauser (you dont need two years work experience, for example). It appears to be based purely on academic merit and need.
It is a serious offer because several students received and availed of this last year as well. I had been awarded this scholarship myself last year:) but decided to take an additional year of experience. Hope this helps.

rippy, any news on your Dworkin scholarship?
no news as there is no post today in Ireland. guess I will find out monday. I was hoping that there were not that many british and Irish students who knew about Dworkin.
I have no publications either though.first class LLB, then cum laude from Sciences Po, internships at the ICJ, IBA, BIICL, now at the European Commission.

Let me know if you find anything on this point. I suspect with many applicants - like JDI - with top credentials not getting scholarships, there should be some kind of option to defer to secure financial assistance.
JDI: You still could be eligible for the Dworkin. The fact your letter did not mention the scholarship, it may mean that the committee is still in the decision process.
As for myself, I have good marks, but no 1st place class ranking as yourself. I think the strongest part of my application is my work experience and several publications. I suspect, however, that this will not be enough, either.

I also have got a 10.000 $ Dean's Scholarship, but it is conditioned to the fact of accepting the admission offer asap...

Quick question for all of you folks who have received your UPS international express packages - do you need to be present to sign? Or will they leave the envelope.
Perhaps the reason why I have not received the package, is I'm not at home (but at work) when they are trying to deliver it.

jw, I called the admissions office and they said if no mention was in the package then I did not receive the award. She then double checked my file and told me that I may have been disqualified from the scholarship process because I am also an American citizen and the Dworkin scholarship is for UK grads. I graduated from a UK university and thought that was the only stipulation, however, citizenship might have been a factor as well. Regardless, she could not confirm or deny the citizenship theory either way - it was only an opinion. Oh well.....
