The Covid FAQ section in the website reads:

What will the instruction modality be for the 2021-2022 school year?At this time, our expectation is that Harvard Law School’s academic programs will be on campus during the 2021-2022 academic year, but note that the school’s decisions regarding teaching modality will continue to be guided by public health considerations.

Hi all,

based on your results in other LLM programmes, how the high number of deferments from a previous year affected admissions?

I’ve been told by admissions officers I taked to a few months ago that we shouldn’t be that concerned about deferrals since many ended up declining (even after deferring). Basically they said there may be fewer spots but were pretty vague about the exact numbers. Apparently it turns out there were more applicants this year than in previous years so I do assume competition is very high. I don’t know exactly how much more difficult Harvard’s admission cycle is though, but in previous years luck was a big part of the process so perhaps all in all it won’t be too different this year.

I doubt anyone would be declining Harvard's offer unless they have a huge scholarship award from another school. And it's true that the number of applications is significantly higher this year. Has been confirmed by officers from multiple T10 schools.

Speaking about deferrals at Harvard, I think there are about 80 deferred students who are expected to start in 2021. There are more deferrals but those students will start in 2022 or 2023. So unless HLS is increasing its class size, it is going to be incredibly competitive with apx 10% more applications and 40% fewer seats.

P.S.: HLS people, if you're reading this and if my facts are correct, kindly take note of my research skills in addition to my application, and give me an offer. Many thanks!

Why are you guys so certain that applications rose compared to last year? Just curious...

They've risen substantially at NYU and Berkeley, so there's no reason why that would not be the case with Harvard. I think most people who apply to other T10 schools also do apply to Harvard?

They're not lesser, in any case, unlike what most of us would have assumed.

Oh I see. Didn't know that. Very much agree it's a reasonable assumption.

First time to know that the number of applicants for NYU and Berkeley has substantially increased. As for my country, I heard that the entire number of applicants for T14 has decreased this year.

Yeah, was surprised too.

In fact, Berkeley admissions officer said in a virtual students session that "we had a record number of applications this year and it was incredibly incredibly competitive."

Accordingly to last years threads, Harvard actually does not send admission letters, but just informs that results are out on their application portal.

Does anybody else consider getting in to HLS so remote a possibility that they're not nervous about it? I feel like that's been my attitude from the outset, which has helped me not get stressed at all about it, though i understand why those who firmly have their sights on harvard would be getting nervous around now
