Congratulations to all those admitted to Columbia Law School! You must be extremely brilliant and talented people!.

I've also applied there, and received the notice of completion on the 5th of December. I see that some of you received the acknowledgement of completion after me and notwithstanding got their admissions letters in early january; that being said, i infer that my chances of acceptance are bleak. Anyway, i still hold some hope.

I am in the same boat with you...:)
But, hey, at least better than those already rejected.
Seems the clear cases were not that many, and it would be worth waiting.

If the clear cases are charaterized by few outstanding numbers and, as I heard of, the kind of applicants, say, students or gov't ppl, I believe the fact that you received completion notice earlier doesnt necessarily mean that your chances remote.

Best wishes for all~~

I'm pleased to learn that i'm not the only one put through this indecisive situation. I thank you very much for your comment for it has given me some solace By the way, have you been accepeted into other programs?

Also, when you refered to students or gov't ppl, did you mean that the offsprings of government officials or the government officials themselves are preferred over others not having these strings? If that's so, it sounds as if corruption permeates everywhere, even highly-regarded, international renown Universities.

Um...I was lucky to get admission from Georgetown last Dec. (Early Action) thanks to the five days extension of deadline.

And...
I must make it clear that what I said is solely based on the few information I chanced to get, and it may not be correct...
I read from a couple of postings of some guys who were admitted to CLS that they are students or have worked in the public sector. I didnt mean to say any kinda corruption or something, and I dont believe any such things interfere with the admission process.

However, my understanding is that, in every law school, they have some kinda minimum quota for diversity purpose set by ethnic group or the types of experience applicants have, but the quota may be flexable every year...When I said students or gov't people, this is what I meant to say...

I guess we shouldn´t worry that much... Just remember what happened when Georgetown started to send acceptance letters last December: few have received them in day #1 and the others received almost simultaneously - and 1 week later... Perhaps it´s a matter of the courses you pick (remember that CLS requests that you inform which courses you intend to take) or of your specialization. Anyway, it is a black box and I´ll only think it´s over when everybody starts popping in this site saying that they were accepted at CLS, and it didn´t happen so far...

Gevurah, ok i c what you meant. It's just that so much expecting without results makes me speculate the unthinkable.
Good luck with your application anyhow!

Incidentally, did you also put forth the Appel or Human Rights essay, or both? Were you awarded some scholarships because of these compositions?

I worked for the appel essay but relinquish human rights 'cause i'm not very fond of of this theme.

Hello,
I've started reading about CLS acceptances and became uncertain as to my situation. I've sent a set of documents and recommendation letters to Columbia and filled in the application on-line for in about 90%. Unfortunately, I have mixed sth up with the deadline and finally was not able to send the form. Now, unexpectedly CLS informs me that its IT Dep. has retrieved my unfinished application and now asks me to pay the app. fee and it will be complete!
Yet, I am wondering if it makes any sense since they have been long in the process of admitting... and $70 is not such a petty thing for me.
What is your opinion / experience?
regards,
Kasia

My take is that you should pay off the applicaton fee. If they've approached u, it may probably be because they've been impressed by your qualifications and therefore they've assessed you as worthy of admissions review. Further, don't go by what some people say about how tardy columbia admissions process can be, for i've been told that there's no strict rule as to when Columbia sends out acceptance letters. A few might be fortunate enough to get it early due, for example, to geographic distributions and extraordinary credentials; but others may receive notice of acceptance way far ahead after March. 70 dollars is a minor downside compared to the upside you'll derive out of studying at one of the most pretigious institutions envolved in law teaching.

Thanks. I'm also leaning towards this option, esp. that I was totally upset by not having managed to complete the application.
Any further advice?

I'd pay the app. fee, no doubt about it.
Actually, the IT department had some problems, that's true...I had paid the appl. fee online when I applied but they told me the payment was not processed, so I had to send out the credit card statement and only then they told me my app. was complete...
Anyway, you never know, I'd definitely suggest that you pay the app. fee for Columbia to review your application.
Anyway...Good luck to all of us still waiting for a decision.

It's so nice to know I'm not the only one getting all anxious and sleepless. Thank you all for sharing.

Has anyone applying to the specific area of IP law received
acceptance notice from Columbia?

Postroc,

I also applied to Columbia (IP LLM) and have received neither an affirmative nor a negative response to my application. I guess we should just wait.

P.S. Also applied to SLS, HLS, Berkeley, NYU and GWU (admitted). Where are you applying? BTW I don't think I'll be attending INTA this year, although I did go to San Diego last year. If you want we can keep in touch regarding this stuff further, via private postings.
