I think that regular cycle applicant will start to hear news from Jan. 15 more less, since this year they will review early applications and the working week of the year 2009 starts on Jan. 5.

A sad day. I just got a rejection from Columbia. They did not even defer me to the regular cycle.
I look forward to other pending applications.

Sorry to hear that jboy...good luck with the pending app in other schools. Don't want to be a pain, but are you latinamerican?

Deferred. Colombia...bittersweet.
Posted Dec 17, 2008 22:49
It was an e-mail explaining the Early Review was huge and that they were unable to give you a decision at this time, but in recognition of strong academic and professional credentials...deferred .

Thanks for the info FinLawyer.
May I ask you guys you TOEFL (total and subsection score)? Do you think that that could be a factor that pulled you out or defer your admission?
Thanks!

Same email...

Deferred... From France. TOEFL: 109. Strong academic credentials, but not much professional experience (11 months of internships overall, and started as a lawyer in France only 2 months ago). Let's keep the faith though...

As I said, I am from Colombia. TOEFL: 110, 7 years in gov financial regulatory agencies, not so strong academic record.
Posted Dec 17, 2008 23:30
I don't think TOEFL had anything to do with it. Actually I guess maybe my not so good academic record could be the reason...anyway, my GPA is 3.98/5.0, so it's not that bad.

Your credentials seems very strong FinLawyer... Might I ask you how well ranked is your university and your class ranking?
In any case, maybe your essays or your rec. letters were not strong, or maybe your "profile" doesn't fit with what they want.. or maybe just bad luck.

My University is the biggest and certainly one of the two best in Colombia, but gives no ranking for students graduated before 2003, so I don't have any rank, although I was in the top 7% of my class. Thanks for your kind words, I also think my credentials are strong, I even may guess my rec. were good also...but, apparently not strong enough :-s Anyway, I will keep my faith and hope to meet you all next year.

Any idea, anyone, on what a deferral decision means in terms of probability of admission??? In the e-mail I received, it was clearly stated that Early Review is particularly selective this year, with a large number of early applicants... Can't stop thinking about what would have happened, have I applied last year!!!.... Anyway, let's keep our hopes up.

hey even i have been deferred.....India....1 yr work exp......and top 1% as far as rank is concerned.....i'm a bit sad but now seeing ppl like finlawyer and others being deferred, i think they really had a tough job deferring.....feeling really bad for Jboy....but i beleive in one thing....wen one opportunity is taken from your hand, it means something better is waiting for you......all d best...especially to jboy for other applications........
@mushroom.....we are sailing in the same boat......deferred on the same day and received HLS 2nd mail on the same day......
any idea how many students got admitted through early review......

hey guys, cheer up, deferral does not mean 'game over' yet. You're still in the race and most of you are expecting a bunch of other deicions anyway. At least you got some kind of decision and can take your breath again until around March. Good luck with the other results!

Deferred as well.
I am still processing what that may exactly mean. I think no one was rejected upfront. So not being rejected is not much consolation. I also think this may be an indicator for other univ.
