I sincerely do not believe Chicago sends more than 50 emails admitting people at first. It would be moral hazard.
But my top thought is if you guys know cases of people not admitted at some law school but admitted at HLS. It is mathmatically logical, but I have never heard of. Have you? I only hear that Harvard grads were admitted at every single law school they applied to.
Anybody has heard anything from UChicago?

A mate of mine tells me someone got rejected from Virginia and got accepted into Yale! So it is possible!
I think it also depends on how the Graduate Admissions Committee is constituted - what they look for etc. Abit of luck would be required for "borderline" applicants.

Thanks, man. This is good news.

thx guys, yeah, maybe I should wait a bit before getting back to Mr badger...
Irishlad, I love your positive way of seeing this waitlist with regard to other schools!! :)) hopefully we'll all either get into chicago or any other top schools like HLS or CLS.... !

I received a rejection letter from Chicago. Considering that my application to Chicago was a bit "weaker" than my applications to other top schools, I only hope to receive an acceptance from any other schools.. Congragulations to all those admitted or waitlisted.

Moral hazard? How is that? I don't get it (or maybe we don't have the same definition)

Instead of tackling the need to call a larger group of waitlisted, they would rather transfer to the applicant the burden of receiving a letter of admittance and eventually being denied that place. But the whole idea is really stupid because in the end the reputation of the institution would be affected.

no no no, my understanding is that if you have an offer - you can accept it - the offer will not be rescinded. I think they usually over-offer in anticipation that xx number of people would reject the offer. They have done this for many years now so they have the experience in number crunching!
Posted Feb 11, 2009 14:59
So the extra offer should not be that large. Yes, it is a nice thought. But less attractive to those who are waitlisted like me, if you understand...

hey bobrazil!
I am on the wait list too so i understand what you feel / mean. However, without those extra offers, we might not even have been waitlisted! the extra offers being waitlisted might equate to less waitlist space! (hope this makes sense?)
cheers,
Greg

Oh, I see. Yeah, the idea becomes increasingly more attractive. Even more because they do not expressly say "waiting list", but that the offer has been "deffered" (standby group). Thanks, once again for the clarification.

no worries! good luck to you!!!
hopefully we will both get something!!

Ditto!

OK Brobrazil now I see what you meant ;-)
Indeed, I doubt they would withdraw any offer they make!
Anyway, good luck and courage for the waiting.

Thanks, dear. Good luck for us all. All we can do now is wait (unpatiently though).

Dear as_llm,
sorry to hear that. I am sure you will fare better with the other schools, I think that as already emphasized in this thread Chicago is indeed one of the most selective considering the ratio of application/acceptance... my guess would be that this is the most competitive LLM to get into, after SLS and Yale.
And if your application for the other schools was stronger, then you definitely have much more chances!
Anyways, may I ask you when you got the decision and the "application complete" email?
Thanks!

May I ask if anybody has heard from Chicago till now? I wonder what are they waiting for release other decisions... thanks and best of luck!

Nothing yet! This wait is killing me....
You still haven't received a reply to your question? Then I guess they must be either closed or working hard on the applications....perhaps they are sending those out at the end of the week. Or perhaps next week? That was the time limit they set in Badger's email.

What do you guys think about UChicago's SMALL llm program? is that an advantage or a downfall? I'm really curious what you think.
