hsinwei89811,
do not worry, I already told you...decisions for late birds like me and you are not likely to come out before the end of next week. Or perhaps even the following one! Chin up and stay positive!

I was thinking: as they will probably "loose" some (or a lot) students to other universities, I think they could offer more than 50 places, knowing the pattern of the last years...Also knowing that the waitlisted are likely to accept a place in somewhere else, before the final decision.
So, they would maintain a better student standard offering more places than they actually have.

Hi fc: Might I ask you which was the pattern of the last years?
I suppose that maybe the people that applied to Chicago are the same ones that applied to CLS, NYU and Berkley, and, for different reasons (maybe because NYC and California are better places than Chicago), at the end, they choose not to attend Chicago.
i am supposing that, because I don't have enought info to conclude that that is a pattern.
Cheers!

Hi guys,
I was worried too for the limited number of slots available but I am now more confident as (1) the admission office told me not to worry for the timing of completion ( after I sent them an email explaining precisely this concern). 2) I learnt from some Chicago Alumnis that the school -as much as most of the law schools- makes substantially more offer than the number of available slots. This is because from their experience they know more or less how many people (at least in terms of range) end up not accepting the offer. (3) I raised the same questions that I've raised in some previous posts on this thread to a law school academic advisor, which gave me some more details about how the rolling basis admissions work: please see below. Hope all this is helpful
1.. Does this mean they admitt depending on meeting a certain standard, and
do not consider potentially stronger applications which they have not
reviewed yet?
Yes, it probably means that some applicants are *so* outstanding that
Chicago knows it wants to make them an offer, even though they have not
reviewed all applications (like you). But don't worry. They know that they
will have more than enough slots left to fill to admit the really great
applications they haven't reviewed yet.
2. Second, they say that for sending out offers they will start from the
applications which were first completed...does that mean they have a quota
per each group of applications (for example, 10 candidates from the group of
those who completed the application before november 10th, 10 from the group
of those who completed the application between november 10th and 20th, and
so forth...)?
No, no quota. They are just notifying people in the order in which they
received the application. They say they have reviewed 89% of all the files.
Most of that 89% is probably a clear admit or clear deny. So they can let
those people know of their decision in the order in which Chicago reecieved
the applications. For the borderline applicants that Chicago is not sure
about, they may wait until they've reviewed the last 11% and then send out
their decisions for those applicants in order in which they sent in their
applications. Either way, you will be one of the last people to hear because
you were one of the last people to have a complete application. But no
quotas of any kind.

(Applause) Thank you, thank you... I would like to dedicate it to my family, to my fathers DNA, and to my brain, whom made all this possible.

I applied on the last day and understandably have not heard anything yet from Chicago. Nevertheless, I'd like to draw your attention to a sentence of Richard Badger, I quote from him: "I will start with the applications which were completed first back in late October and then move in chronological order by weeks based on the date of completion." I understand from this wording that they take into account the date of completion not the date of submission while reviewing the files as well as while sending the responses. That's my understanding.
In light of this, I was wondering if there is anyone who received completion e-mail after January 15 and received a response from the university. Btw I submitted my application on December 15 and I received the application complete e-mail on January 15. Any comments?

I just received the admission offer this morning from Mr. Richard Badger at University of Chicago Law School. I am really happy and so relived, since this is the first admission I have received so far and also because I submitted most of my applications shortly before the respective deadline. BTW, I am from Southeastern Asia.
In the case of University of Chicago, I mailed my application materials by FedEx on December 9, 2008, and received the completion e-mail from U of Chicago on December 25, 2008. Despite the great news from Chicago, my wife was put in the standby group and we really hope to pursue the LL.M. in the same city. Hope we will hear good news from Northwestern. Also the best luck to all others waiting to hear from Chicago or other schools.

Lol. You're really worried arent'you? I guess you haven't received anything yet....don't worry just wait few more hours! Anyways, I am from Europe, top 3% of my class, 2 publications and 2 years of experience, and currently reading for a PhD. I am calm since I am not expecting to hear from them before the end of next week...but I do agree that email from Badger really made us all more anxious more than anything !:)
