about the LSAC Credential Assembly Service

horine

hello everyone,

I intend to apply for NYU law school and it requires the CAS service from LSAC. I'v been told that the service is good for 5 years and includes 5 school reports. but when I registered for the service I need to purchase the school report seperately. it's quite an amount.....
Is that service already cancelled this year?

thank you very much for your help :)

ok, from what I know -what I have to pay- is 75$ for document assembly service (TOEFL and transcripts or LORS depending on your school of choice) and 125$ for the accreditation of the documents (this you don't need in certain cases, but my transcripts being foreign do require this). And it does include reports to 5 schools, additional schools you have to pay a fee (16$ I think it was).

According to what I was told by LSAC, earlier report to 5 schools was included but now it's not and you have to pay $16 for each school. I got my credentials evaluated in March 2011 and at that time I paid $180 which included reports to 5 law schools. Now, after new LSAC services, when I started applying, I am being told that nothing is included and I will have to pay for each school separately.

This is what my shoppin cart in LSAC looks like:

Shopping Cart
Items Price Total
International Evaluation Service remove $125.00 $125.00
Document Assembly Service remove $75.00 $75.00
Prices are in US dollars Total: $200.00

I don't really know where the difference may come from.. it might have to do with the fact that I will be paying more or what.

Edit: I do know for additional ones the price is $16

to cris25: r u applying now? I mean many of my previous applicant told me that they do have 5 free school reports sent....I got no idea if LSAC cuts this service this year....

and to Pinz: I think they change so quick!!! how can they change the policy just a few months....that really add a sum to the applicatoin budget...just thinking if there is any protest as so many people doubt that, haha

thank you again,

To those who have paid for the Lsac service before the new rule.
I think we should form a block and sue this people.
We are lawyers; they can't apply a new rule to a past situation.
Their new rule should have been effective on future situation, not on past ones.
There is a violation of the terms of the contract that we had.
the $ 185 that we paid was for the evaluation and five reports. Why do we have to pay $16 per law school?
anyone with me on this?

i've got the reply mail from LSAC that they officially cancelled the 5 free report service....the new policy add so much burden into my application!! and it's unfair for those who had already registered the $185 for free 5 reports...

i dont think it is mandatory using this service. and i am considering whether use it or not....

anyone in favor of not using it? will there be any prejudice if not?

i think its mandatory, schools like nyu etc direct you to lsac to fill up the application.
My query is should I send my transcripts and pay them once they recieve or pay them and then send transcripts.

Also guys, we send transcripts of first degree of law. But are also required to send transcripts of the 2 years of pre-university course/ intermediate that we do right after 10th grade and before joining the 5 yr B A LLB?? (this question would make more sense to the Indian applicats)

Hey Siri, I registered with them , paid them and sent them the transcripts. You will gave to register first in order to have your LSAC a/c no., along with that you would need a LSAC transcript request form which you would have to ask your university to attach with the transcripts. So, you will have to register and pay first.

Secondly, you just need to send transcripts of your 5 year course. I did 3 yr LLB course. So I sent my Bcom degree and LLB degree transcripts. I hope this helps.

Hi all,

I did a year of law at one law school before shifting to another one. Do I need to submit my transcripts for that one year to LSAC/Universities as well? Any ideas?

Also, does LSAC send you a mail confirming that they have received your transcript by courier?

Butterflies,

once you send them your documents to them by courier, keep checking your LSAC A/c. They update it when they receive transcripts and withing few days of receiving it, they evaluate them.

About your other question, I would suggest, send them an email, they will tell you what all documents you need to send them.

@Siri, I didn't send my higher secondary transcripts, they only need undergrad transcripts. I got it thing done in March 2011, and that time rules were different and I paid around $185.

okay.. brilliant!

am still waiting for my transcripts. once i get them i;ll pay lsac.
i have to pay 75 $ in addition to the 125 $ for their evaluation of my transcripts and then 16 $ per application for sending that report apart from the application fee of respective colleges!

so much money these guys are making! :p

@ Siri Rao.
make sure to have your degrees send directly to lsac. they have to be sent from your school. if you send them yourself, they will not evaluate them.
I hope this help you. A better idea is that you should call lsac and speak to Tami Trapp.

@cameroon: well you are right, school needs to send but my school wudnt send to US! So my alternative is (i called lsac) am supposed to collect the sealed package of universities ad other things tht need to be sent all in sealed packages, put them all in one big package and send it to lsac :)

@cris25: i really haven been able to decide how to cut down the number of universities i shud be applying to! how did u do tht? no, seriously, what are the factors?

Also, what are the tier 1 and tier 2 universities here? i read the rankings but what do you guys think? what are the safe. moderate and ambitious ones here?
