Has anybody heard anything?
I'm going to the GULC Open House in a few weeks, and I'd sort of like to know what my options are when I'm there.

Not a peep. I've decided to include a stop in gainesville to my trip to the GULC open house. Puts us in a tough position because GULC's deadline is 4/1 and NYU is 4/15.

A stop in Gainesville? Where are you coming from?
I've got family in Gainesville and would like to work in the South so there is some appeal to UF depending on how the finances of everything shake out.

Alaska. :-) It's a strange trip with a weird roundtrip cruise from NYC that makes a stop in Florida. So the day of the Florida stop I think we'll rent a car to drive to Gainesville.

I take it only one person (DaddyLLM) heard anything from this school?!

I think there has been some kind of strange office occurrence causing the delay. I applied in November, received a decision in December and then heard nothing. I then received a phone call a couple of weeks ago from a professor (the decision letter mentions that I was to have received such a phone call in the week following acceptance). I also received an email this week asking if I needed any assistance with information about Florida. So whatever the delay was, it looks to have ended and their office is humming along now.
Florida was my first choice (for personal reasons) and it was noted in my application, so perhaps my app was moved along more quickly for that reason? Or it may be that I hit them right when there was a lull in their application processing? I don't really know. I did call them at one point in early November with questions and they were incredibly helpful and did mention that when they get busy the office does a lot of scrambling to put complete applications together. Apparently the person who picked up the phone was an admissions dean(!) not an assistant or student intern which makes me think the office may be understaffed.

Are you a domestic or foreign lawyer?

Domestic lawyer applied to the domestic tax llm.

I emailed the office at lunch today asking when decisions would be released. Said that I had heard from NYU and Georgetown and needed to give them a decision. Haven't heard back yet but one of the email addresses showed that the woman was out of the office the past month on medical leave.

Oh dear, I was wondering if something like that had happened...
I'm so incredibly torn between NYU/GULC/UF right now. I'm not doing this to get a job - I already have one. So how much of a difference is NYU's name going to make in my future? That's what it all seems to boil down to.

I'm doing this for a job so to convince me to go to UF would probably mean some sort of scholarship or one of their assistanceships.
I want to work somewhere in the South but am really concerned that I'm going to hurt myself not going to NYU.

Exactly - will every future employer/client think - why didn't this person go to NYU? But is that worth the huge cost.......

Ahh glad to not feel alone in this dilemma as I, too, am trying to decide between NYU and UF. Crescent, I'm asking the same questions- is whomever is interviewing me going to be skeptical as to why I picked UF over NYU? I'm planning to stay in the South (Florida even) so that makes my decision all the more difficult. If I'm interviewing in Florida, chances are they'll be aware of the UF program's status and not think twice about it.
But what's the value in the degree 20 years from now? Having NYU on your resume forever is pretty tempting . . .
Best wishes to both of you as you make your decisions!

I just got this response to my e-mail.
Dear [DeaconCav06],
Thank you for your email. Your file is ready for Committee review and I would anticipate a response for you in about two weeks.
With best regards,
[UF]
So, I'll have ~1 week to make a decision. That's great.

Congrats to you all on your acceptances to all of these great schools. Not to annoy, but if you all do not mind, I would like to know if you think I have a shot at UF. My application was complete 3 weeks ago (I have not received any notification, so my guess is... hopefully it will go before the committee soon... hopefully very soon).
T2 school, ranked 25 out of 200.
3.45 GPA
Tax professor formally taught at UF.
Earned an A in Fed Tax (only tax class completed at this point). It was also the highest A, so I earned the Book Award.
Also earned an A in business associations.
Currently enrolled in 3 tax classes.
Law Review, Moot Court (Exec) and Mock Trial.
Article on tax issue.
No legal experience in tax, but tons of other legal experience (hey the economy has gone down the tank and these days you take what you get).
2.9 in undergrad with an English Degree (now you know why I am at a T2 school).
Thanks for the help. Waiting stinks, and it has only been 3 weeks. My guess is NYU and Florida are waiting on you all to give them an answer before they move way down the list to people like me.

You are currently enrolled in three tax courses? Which ones? I do not think you will be initially accepted but you can apply for reconsideration. During the reconsideration process, you can submit your entire, complete transcript with this semester's grades included. Also, people by then will have decided whether they are going to accept UF's offer. You will probably get an answer to your reconsideration by July -- very short notice but if you are serious about the tax program you can prepare in advance for such a long wait.

I am guessing no news still? I guess we'll all be putting down deposits elsewhere...

It wasn't in today's mail. I'm not very pleased about this. Mostly because I want to go to Georgetown this weekend knowing what my options are going to be.
I'm planning on Gtown this weekend and NYU next weekend. Gtown has really impressed me with their "recruiting" I feel like NYU is sort of come if you want but if not that's okay too.
On the other hand, I'm starting to doubt myself more with regards to passing on NYU for Gtown.
