In the EXACT same boat. I'm going to GULC and NYC this weekend to visit. Would really like to make my decision by the end of my trip, but not knowing from Florida doesn't help with that at all.
And I feel the exact same way about GULC recruiting but doubts as to passing on NYU. If I had to guess right now, I'll probably pick GULC. But we'll have to see.

I'd say Im' 70-80% GULC right now, but at the start of the week I was probably around 90% GULC.

Speak of the devil! I just received a call from them. Apparently there was a mixup and some of my application materials were sent to the main campus instead of the law school. I'm guessing the mixup was on my part. Anyway they were very nice, and I'm hopeful they will review my application soon! Sounds like they're working really hard.

I know it won't do anything to ease your anxiety or the frustration you've experienced but before you start passing judgment on UF's program, you should keep in mind that UF does not have an abundance of LLM programs (there are 2 tax, 3 non-tax). This means there is no centralized admissions office for graduate programs. This is in stark contrast to a school like NYU, which has a Committee on Graduate Admissions evaluating every LLM candidate regardless of concentration.
At UF, tax faculty members (and tax faculty members alone) are the ones reviewing applications and making admissions decisions. If you'll look at past threads, Florida was well known for a quick turnaround (4 weeks from completion in most cases). They've obviously had some unavoidable delays this semester and yes, it's understandably disappointing and frustrating. But their system is just different than their contemporaries; you may find it inefficient or counterproductive but it's a successful program so obviously they are doing something right, or you wouldn't have even applied.

The lady I talked to came across as efficient, pleasant and accomodating.

The Only issue that I have is I submitted my application in early January and I'm coming up on deadlines.
I don't want to waste a seat deposit.

I am sure they must be aware of that issue and I would imagine that for something to throw such a wrench in their process it would have to be big. In any event sounds like we'll be hearing soon!!!

Yeah. I saw that the other day. I'm a little curious about the methodology though because it has the top tax programs for law schools and then the "list" of top LLM programs is essentially the same list with schools that don't have the program taken out of the list.
It also sort of reaffirms my concern that I need to go to NYU.

They don't do a ranking for LLM tax programs--it's just for the tax department.

Still haven't heard anything.
I'm going to go ahead and send in my deposit to Georgetown at the end of the week.

Hopefully posting goes better today than yesterday. I received a friendly email yesterday requesting a reply to their decision by April 1st, so I assume they are doing preliminary headcount in anticipation of releasing their remaining decisions.
Florida is my first choice, but unfortunately I need to consider other opinions and it is not realistically looking like those other opinions are going to change anytime soon. Is anyone on this board serious about Florida's domestic tax LLM program and time-pressed to hear back? I'll send my reply Friday if maybe that'll make seat counting go a fractional bit faster.

Whose opinions? Your employer's?
Posted Mar 23, 2011 17:28
No, purely a personal matter having to do with relocating to Gainesville.
Posted Mar 23, 2011 17:32
Are you reconsidering the LLM entirely now? Or you just thinking of attending another university?
Posted Mar 23, 2011 17:50
Attending another university. I like Gainesville and Levin is a good match for my professional/educational goals but a more urban area suits the particular situation better.

Crescent1841, did you visit Georgetown and NYU this past weekend? Would you mind sharing your opinion of NYU/Greenwich Village? Also, did you get a chance to look at any of the student housing?

I lived in the Mercer dorms when I was working as a summer associate in 2008. It was a pretty great situation for being there. I didn't really spend a whole lot of time there, but there was a guard and laundry facilities.

Thank you for info. on Mercer. It is good to hear from someone who actually lived there! I currently live in a small town in South Florida (but I did work for a firm/live in DC for two years), so I've been wondering about life in NYC.
I thought of UF but b/c I wanted to leave open the option of relocating back to DC after the tax LLM, I only applied to Georgetown and NYU.
