Was exactly in the same situation as you two days ago... finally decided on NYU, but it was a tough choice.

Jeez, Lucinda, now it became complicated... Ok, here´s the thing: I think that a 20K scholarship is pretty good. It looks great in your resume, and it means less debt as well... I don´t think NYU is substantially better than UPenn in IP Law, so unless you have any strong personal or professional reason to prefer NYU, I think UPenn´s offer is a winner. UPenn is a great school (now #6) and I am sure you´ll have a great experience there. Ok, Philly isn´t NYC, but what´s fashionable is also expensive... And I think 20K may make a difference.

Btw, I assume that what UPenn´s offering you is a merit scholarship... In that case, congratulations!

Ayzac did you apply for the scholarship?

First of all, congratulations!
Personally I will choose UPenn as well. You will spend 25-30K more at NYU (your scholarship plus living expense). I really agree with ivan that this is hard to beat.

Posted Mar 31, 2007 12:23
Because I thought NYC was more fun, because NYU offered me a reseach assistant position, and because they have top faculty in my field of interest, which is environmental law.

OMG ...i cant make up my mind, now im more into NYU again ... because its so well known in my country of origin, altho i wanna stay in the us as long as i can...

If you wanna stay in the states, isnt NYU the better choice... In general, NYU has a better reputation and ranking in the states. I personally would choose Penn due to its program size. And in my country there is no difference between Penn and NYU, so I dont have to think about ranking too much.

I don't see how the reputation of a school in your home country has any impact on being able to stay in the US...
The question is : why do you want to stay in the US ? Is it because you really like New York City ? Or is it for the same reason as most of us : earning big money ?
It is possible to stay in the US after an LLM from NYU or Penn - I know some people from Penn getting great jobs in US law firms, just as people from NYU are getting great jobs in the US too.

Guys...
It is always a difficult decision.
It was the same for me. Merit fellowship from Northwestern and nothing from Columbia.
I am probably going to NU as I do not want to take a loan of US$ 40,000...
But I am still afraid that my choice is wrong. Argh... )-:

I know what you say happyday. I chose UVA over UPenn and NYU just for the financial aid. I didn´t want to take a US$ 40,000 loan. I hope to get a good job in USA after the LL.M. In case contrary, I will regret all my life not having gone for NYU..............
