NYU@NUS 2012/2013

Hey guys,
I am a LLB student from Hong Kong and would like to know how are you finding the NYU@NUS programme. What is the admission requirement for this programme in terms of the GPA required?
Further, is it feasible to practice law in Singapore after finishing this programme?

Hello guys! Congrats to all the admitted ones to the program!!! I have applied myself (really late), and still no news so far.
My application status was "complete and under review" on feb 4th, and just noticed they changed the date (with same status "under review") to feb.20th....so my question is how long does it take them to send an email whether one is accepted or rejected?
Especially @piergiuseppe, how did it go with you since u ve got a later admission offer (congrats again btw;) )?
Thanks in.advance guys for ur replies...im getting worried..
Cheers

Frontal, thank you.

Mayo, I got an email of complete application ready to be submitted to the Committee on january 4th. I was a little worried for the delay, but since I have applied to the NYU LL.M as well I think they took more time keeping my application under review for this reason.

I would like to say that I got an email in which the School told me I have been admitted, adding that I am going to get a formal offer in the coming days. Thus I do not know anything about my deadline and so on.

The funny thing is that I am waiting replies from 7 Schools. I just got accepted at NYU and Northwestern but rejected from Chicago.

In any case the biggest part of my decision will depend on financial aid (there is a scholarship I can apply in my home Country but they are really slow taking decisions and bureaucracy slows everything so that I should anticipate the money).

Hope that helped.
Best.

Good job...do you know how many students in the program? Anyone got a scholarship? Do you know anything about deferral?

There's supposed to be bout 40-45 students in the program. Some have already received the Deans Schol...but that we'll only get to know once we receive our formal packs. I think deferral is permitted. Are you planning a deferral?

congrats to everyone thats got into the program.

I'm still undecided about pursuing this or not...but i'm leaning towards declining the offer and the Dean's award. Still got a couple more days to make up my mind :S

Congratulations to everyone. I accepted the offer few weeks ago. The NYU@NUS is one of the very few programs that seems to offer a good learning AND life experience. In most of the ranking, NYU LLM is very very high. And in addition, you get the NUS LLM. It is a very good deal.

those who have other offers, have you decided already? march is near. I'm leaning towards NYU@NUS, not least because of the 'potential reputation' vs other programs. the smaller the class, the better, is my credo  the fact that it seems yet more competitive than programs of even better ranked unis will be easily sold to prospective employers. plus, I like the asia and the business angle very much..

disclosure: no, I'm not working for the program ;)

It can be deferred. I was admitted last year and asked for deferred admission and I was granted deferred admisson. But you must be able to present a good reason for th deferral.

Sure. Understood. Also did you pay the 500$ fee and then ask for a deferral? Whats the procedure? Thanks for your help.

Just send your request to the gradlaw-emailadress and they will tell you what to do. Yes, you have to pay the 500 US Dollar deposit if you wanna be granted deferred admission.

Sorry to say that, but sometimes I wonder what most people are looking for when doing an LL.M!

The best program is the program that fits best for your future career goals. So just look at the describtion and the courses of the IBRLA and those of NYU@NUS and ask yourself which courses better reflect the subjects and matters that you wanna deal with in the future. For a European, the NYU@NUS program is the best program if you wanna work related to Asia in the future. Furthermore, it´s more focused on Finance and Corporate Law. The IBRLA is obviously more focused on litigation and arbitration. Thus, both programs reflect completely different legal sectors what should make it easy for you to answer your question given that you know what you wanna do in your future (if not already working in one of these areas).
