I am from Switzerland and I got admitted to NYU (traditional LLM) this moring and I was awarded a Vanderbilt scholarship (full tuition). I was requested to submit my decision on the scholarship by March 9. However, I'm still waiting for HLS and Berkeley admissions...I wonder, whether NYU would accept a request for an extension..

Apparently we are in the same situation (except for the fact that I am not Swiss). Have you got any idea of what the Vanderbilt scholarship exactly cover?

Wow. They are really strict. I called to the office and they said that I should withdraw all the admission offers and pending applications right away if I wish to accept the scholarship offer. It's like.. If I submit tuition deposit today, I should call all other law schools TODAY. So should I send decline letters to other law schools or just call them.
Interesting. I wonder what does this "commitment" exactly mean...What if one "commits" to NYU (and pay the deposit) - without turning down all other pending applications though - and after a while is accepted by his/her favorite law school and decides to go there? Of course you would loose your deposit and put in NYU black-list, but I don't think that NYU would sue you for damages or the like. If for you attending your favorite law school whorts more than 500 dollar, this might be a case of efficient breach of contract. Any thought?

How much is the deposit at NYU? Does the offer e-mail say something about the consequences of accepting now and not effectively enrolling (being blacklisted or the like)?
Posted Mar 02, 2010 18:15
absolutely! The deposit is there to make sure ppl will think twice before turning an offer down after paying the deposit. On the other hand they could also ask instantly for the whole amount without any deposit at all. So, it is their system which puts you in this situation. And I am sure, they are okay if you give them 500 bucks as a present (for looking at your application), even if you choose a different law school later ...

Well, I just paid the tuition deposit. No need to wait actually because of a huge scholarship. I would send decline letter to other law schools as soon as possible.
Congrats on your final choice! Just one small question - how do you know about ur scholarship? Was there a separate document or just a wording in a letter?

Whistler, I too have received the Vanderbilt full-tuition scholarship. The scholarship award and mechanism for accepting the same are spelled out in the admissions letter.

I see. Well, this is it and NYU does not give a penny to me.. Too sad. Well, my USD71k will go to CLS then... Is it a prejudice against Russian students or highly paid assosiates as well?)))

I don't think so...I heard of well paid associates that they received waivers as well...But I think that 71kUSD is rather scarecely calculated, isn't it?

What do you mean? 71k is the amount indicated by CLS at their website.. Anyway, the truth is that I have received the NYU decision ~7pm NY time ysterday, Im in, but without any aid. In this circumstances I would rather go to CLS..
