I am thinking of applying to an LLM program in Tax or International Tax.
I am ranked about in the top 35 or 30% of my class, with a 3.4 GPA. I have a 3.5 GPA in five tax courses, including Income, International, Business Planning, Estate and Gift, and Corporate.
I go to De Paul College of Law in Chicago.
Given my credentials, where do I have a chance of getting in?

If I'm not mistaken, the top International Tax LLM (UM and NYU) accept only foreign student, therefor you might try and apply to the Tax LLM programs at NYU. UF, GULC, NW, BU... there are more but I believe that this are the best Tax programs.

Hi,
I think that your credential are not good enough for NYU or GULC...but I believe that you might have your chances at UF, BU, UM and San Diego or Loyola.
Also, Int'l LLM's usually are focus on foreign students, therefore your chances will be lower on that field.
Best!

UM International Tax LLM is only for foreign students (up to ten students each year, and usually less than that), and besides that it's better than GULC Tax LLM and maybe even more than NYU International Taxation LLM. The chance to study with Professor Avi-Yonah and Professor Kahn is a privilege.

better than GULC and NYU???? i don't think that's correct. Why?

It's my opinion of course but:
In short - very selective group (10 students max), untill now - 100% of those who graduated and wanted to work in the US found a job in one of the top law firms and the chance of learning from Professor Avi-Yonah is an unbelievable experiance.
Also, since this is a very selective program who admitt very small group, usually those who wish to continue to SJD can do that.

Hey,
By UM I meant University of Miami...if we're speaking of the University of Michigan, I must admit that the director and professor Avi-Yonah is a privilege, and withhout hesitation one of the best tax scholar/professor. However, he has recently moved to UMICH and it's still gaining its recognition in the market, that is why the university is not ranked among the top 3.

UM will never be on the USNEWS ranking since it's only for foreign students... :)

Like I said above, I have a 3.4, top 30%, and a 3.5 in five tax courses, including Income, International, Corporate, Estate and Gift, and Business Planning, from DePaul University College of Law,and I applied to NYU, GULC, NW, University of Miami and Florida, and BU.
So far, only my application at NW is complete as of February 6, 2008, but they make their decisions in 6-8 weeks.
My application to NYU should be complete sometime early next week along with my application to BU and University of Miami. As far as my application to GULC and University of Florida, that should be complete sometime late next week, possibly even longer depending on how long my professors send out their letters.
Am I on track, or am I already too late for many of these schools, time wise, or in any other respect?

You already missed the early admission deadline at GULC. People have already been admitted so if you want to give yourself the best chance of getting into a program that has early admission or rolling admissions, you might want to wait until next year
