Hi everyone,
I am a bit confused about the confirmation email(s) from Harvard.
Here is what I received a week after I sent my application via mail:
"Thank you for submitting your LL.M. application to the Graduate Program at Harvard Law School .
The Graduate Program Admissions staff is currently reviewing your file. We will make sure to contact you should we require additional documents. We will keep you informed of the status of your application by sending you an e-mail confirming receipt of your application materials; we will then send you a second notice indicating whether your application is complete or not (this is, historically, anywhere between a few days from the date of this e-mail to a few weeks). " etc.
So, when you guys talk about the confirmation email, is it this email?
Because I haven't received any other email confirming receipt of my application...(which was sent about three weeks ago...). not to talk obviously about an email stating that my application is complete...
i'm lost...
thanks in advance!

I'm exactly in your same position, but I got a second mail in early October asking me to retake toefl as I didn't meet their requirement. Then, last week I sent them my new score, and so now I'm waiting for a mail confirming my application file is complete.

Dear Stagista,
Could you tell us your Toefl score (general and subsections)
Thanks!

Hi Laodeshu!
The e-mail you have just received it is the first one. HLS is telling you that they received your application form and attached documents. We are waiting for the second e-mail in which HLS explain if whether your documents are complete.
It is said that the second e-mail is sent by mid-december. But, I am not sure.

Regarding the requirement of having at least 25 points in each subsection of the TOEFL ibt, does anyone know if they could admit applicants with an overall score higher than 100 (i.e. 110) but with 23 points in the speaking section?

of course I'm...I'm not very concerned about disclosing and sharing some info (this was supposed to be some humor with regard to a NYU admissions related post...). I retook my toefl on Nov 8, and got a 104 score last week just before thanksgiving. 28 reading, 29 listening, 26 speaking, and just 21 in writing...I'm a little in trouble with this last section, but I think - or at least hope - that the overall score will keep them quite...let you know as soon as they will get back to me

I took the TOEFL Paper-based Test (PBT) my score was 603. And you?

My considerations over it are the following:
I took the toefl and got an overall of 111, qhich I consider to be very high, since I never heard of anyone scoring above 115.
My worst subsection was speaking (23), with 30, 29, 29 on the others.
My guess is, if accept the paper based Toefl, which does not have a speaking section, that section must be the least relevant to them.
Nonetheless I paid for another section, next friday.
On the other hand I made an specific inquiry about this, and received two different answers (they can be seen on the post "toefl 111 not good?")
I expect your considerations, and if you do not mind disclosing your very secret toefl scores (also an irony to the YHC guy on the CLS topic) I'd be very glad to know if my perception about toefl scoring is wrong.

I was thinking about you bofre when I was writing this pos eheh...lucky me, as long as I'm not involved in either CLS or NYU admissions process...back to the main topic of this post, honestly I thought I could get a higher score, but since I didn't even study before retaking the exam I cannot complain the outcome...in my opinion you should'nt retake the toefl. your score is already very high. Trying to think in Harvard's shoes, I'd rather focus on your resume instead of toefl...I'm pretty confident in getting admitted to each of the 8 unis I've applied to, as I've been working for the embassy of my country to the US before joining the EC...top 5% of my class (could also be less perhaps, around 3-4%), already a LL.M in my country (that actually isn't really a LL.M...more some sort of JD), and much much more! ehehe

that's definitively interesting...I keep saying that I don't want to disclose much info, but I can tell you that I have performed far better than my fellow citizens average! eheheh...I'm not surprised at all though...thank you for these statistics...I wasn't aware they were avaliable on-line...

hey crimlawyer wasn't this topic already discussed somewhere on this board? I remember writing a post about it... Hate to repeat myself!
Posted Dec 02, 2008 18:53
Oh yes but since someone started it again, I felt comfortable to reopen discussions.
Posted Dec 02, 2008 18:54
Also, there is not much to debate about for the next 3 months, right?
Posted Dec 02, 2008 19:29
I agree with you Crimlawyer. And thanks for reopening the discussion!
Posted Dec 02, 2008 19:59
I must apologise instead...wasn't my intention to reopen it, but it's also true that we have nothing else to talk about while waiting for february/march...
