Any news??
Apparently, the previous years, many applicants have been notified of their admission/rejection in very early January.
Personnaly, I received a "complete application notification" in mid-November and nothing new so far.

No news yet. The waiting continues. Hopefully we should hear something soon.

Hi, my application was also complete in mid-november and I haven't heard anything from them. Let's just wait and see :)

As far as I know, they usually do not decide that early. Last year, a friend of mine, who had a very strong application and got his completion mail by mid November, received his notification in mid-february. and it was a very strong application (ranked 2nd in a class of 92, no. 1 law firm in switzerland, bar admission, 116 pts in Toefl etc.).
May I kindly ask, what your backgrounds are? I have applied too and am hoping to get in...

I'm pretty sure that the first decisions are released in January. On the "Columbia admissions" thread of last year, it was the case: many people received an email from Columbia by mid-january.
Well, my initial formation is a business school (I should be graduated in 2010): HEC Paris (which is ranked 1st Business School in Europe 4 years in a row by the Financial Times, and 1st Master of Science in Management in Europe too if we consider the average of the last 5 years). HEC does not rank its students, but I have good grades there (in law, top 5%; in general, maybe top 15%).
At the same time, I completed a first degree in private law at the Université de Versailles, a Master of Corporate Law at the Université de Panthéon-Sorbonne with awards, and I'm completing a Master of Corporate and Tax Law at said Université this year. Still no ranking, but I should be about top 15%.
Lastly, I have three internships but no work experience: one humanitarian mission, and 2 internships in top american law firms.

Wow, congrats. your academic curriculum sounds impressive!
I think it depends on the application date then.
I graduaded with honors in Switzerland. Although my University does not provide a rank, I know that I only was 25th of about 70 students. So I'm concerned about that.
But, I work in one of Switzerland's best law firms (ranked 5 in general and ranked 1st in insolvency) as an attorney-at-law. Further, I am member of the board of a social association, which does a lot of things in Switzerland. I am a law teacher and I have many more extracurricular acctivities that mitgh "pimp" my rank.
So, I hope, we'll meet in fall!

We'll see...but since I just received my "completion mail" last week, I do not think that I will be given an answer soon.
When have u applied?

Damn, now u r making me nervous:-)
Although I am well aware of the fact that the class rank I achieved was not amongst the top 15%, I have some very strong points in my CV and a lot of work experience. I am expecting to be rejected...however, as long as you do not receive the final mail, you still have hope...hate it!

I know one person who was accepted very recently through Regular Cycle. So few decisions must have been realeased...
Anyway, that's apparently a completly random process. Though, as my application was complete 2 months ago, I would hope to get a (positive!) decision soon ;).

My guess is that they study the applications one after another. There are three kind of applications: the first are that great (e.g. Number 1 in class, Ph.D (summa cum laude), various work experiences and so on) that they send an acceptance immediately. The second are good, but maybe not that persuasive as the first group. Therefore, they keep them until they know, that all group one participants have been accepted. And last, there is a third group, which do not fit at all. They will receive a rejection immediately...
It's just a guess...but that's how I would do it...

Hi all,
I have applied early action but got deferred because I had a document missing. I sent that document in late December and received an e-mail stating that my application will be reviewd "later this spring"...

Hi all,
I have been admitted to several other universities already. Some of them have given me very close deadlines to make up my mind. However, I don´t want to make a decision yet. I´d really like to know what Columbia has to say.
Do you think a request for an expedited decision would hurt my chances?

I would say yes. You should wait at least a few weeks before asking them...
