Columbia/Regular Action

Dear all, congratulations for the students accepted...I've applied on december 9, and received yesterday a reply, a negative one. Maybe my credentials were not enough strong.

Dear andyllop, perhaps not a good moment but could you please share the date you send your app? I sent mine a week before the deadline aprox, so I guess I'm trying to guess when I might get an answer

getting more anxious :S

best luck to all! and congrats to admitted :)

Maybe it's our turn soon. I applied on 2 Dec but my application didn't go complete until 28 Dec. :-S

cheers IHTA :)
mine was completed even later than yours.. on Jan 3.
In had some crazy hollidays, first LSAC send my report on Dec 29 -after a 2 month review!- and then CLS apparently lost one of my letters, but finally found it by Jan 3rd, so I'm ok now

this whole process is really a roler coaster

No worries...Life of the lawyer includes deception and frustration and this application was a longshot, but rather fire the gun than hold the bullet. I received my complete application email on January although I sent all my documents in early december (3rd-4th)

Good riddance

Guys, I will say something that probably almost everyone knows, but...

It doesn't depend of the date of completion, or when the application was sent.
It depends of the group : there are 3 groups :
-The ones with exceptionnal and very high profile : they have their (positive) answer very fast
-The ones with very bad and awful profile : they have also their (negative) answer very fast
-The ones between them : good and very good profiles, but not exceptionnal : by far the larger group, and it takes some time to decide to offer an admission or not

That's it ;)

For the quick rejections, I would agree with you. However, from last year, some people I know with top profiles (valedictorian of Pantheon-Assas Paris II, 1 year and a half of internships at Sullivan and Cromwell, Cleary Gottlieb, etc) received a very late answer.

EDIT: Aky, I just realized you were French. Here is a French example of someone I know rejected very early: Master I in Corporate Law from the Université of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne (cum laude), student in the Master II in Corporate and Tax Law from the Université of Paris I, some internships in good French law firms (Francis Lefebvre...).

Only a guess but I think they don't offer early to very very top people because maybe they're of the opinion that they would have applied elsewhere and gotten in. Therefore the late offer so that they're sure this person will accept.

I sent my app right before the deadline and got my complete mail on Jan 19. So I shouldn't really be complaining here. :)

So would you describe a profile as "awful and bad" just for not being admitted to Columbia ? Poor choice of words...

No.

1) It was just to show an idea in a quick manner
2) Guys not admitted could be from the "bad and awful" group, or from the large "good and very good profiles", as I said.

The same idea can be posted without such a drastic view of 'bad and awful', rather than not up to Columbia standards. I myself wasn't selected but I have 4 offers of prestigious Law Schools (one in the top 10 of the so called rankings) with two scholarships being offered. I wouldn't call myself bad and awful...

Now can we go back to the subject of the thread, please?

I would not take it too personal. Good and bad profiles also get rejected. Just blame scarcity.

Dear all

I know how hard it is to wait for I have been in the same position last year and received my admission mail in april although I applied by early december.

Believe me that it doesn't matter if you applied on the first or if u applied on the last day. I know ppl that received admission within a few days while others had to wait for almost four months or even more.

But if u are not admitted, don't think u are bad. Sometimes u will be admitted for one school while another, not necessarily worse school will not accept you.
