Columbia/Regular Action

the waiting is killing me..

I swear! Why don't they let anyone know. It's been a month and a half since I applied. :(

I applied 3 months ago and received the application complete email more than 2 months ago!

I wonder why Columbia's process is so random...

Three months? :( That's sad.

The school has started sending out decisions to some regular applicants.

I applied under the regular track and received an offer 2 days ago by email. My credentials are not particularly impressive and I agree that the decision making is somewhat random.

Congratulations Poonchoy! I agree, it is totally random. I have friends who were exceptional candidates and they weren't accepted until the end of March last year. The first time I applied (back in 2006) I wasn't accepted until May. It's painful but we just have to wait.

Congrats Poonchoy. If you don't mind me asking, what are your credentials? And from where?

Thanks.

As I said, it's not spectacular. I graduated with a 3.3/4.0 GPA from a small asian law sch. Worked for the local office of a medium size regional firm for 3 years doing corporate finance.

Thanks.

On a random rolling basis.

From that I've read, the process is not random. It is country-wise where one is pitted against your other countrymen/women. But three months of waiting does seem rather excessive. Has anyone asked for an expedite?

Regular Application Deadline
Applications and all supporting documents for the 2011-2012 academic year must be postmarked no later than December 15, 2010. Applications postmarked after this date will not be processed. Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis, in most cases no later than late April

It's true that applicants are compared country by country. However, last year, some French applicants received their decisions in February. Others, with extremely high credentials, received their decisions in late March/early April.

This year, I have no idea when to expect a decision...

I wonder if they only release admission emails around this time.

Congratulations, Poonchoy! When did you apply and when did your application go complete? Thanks.

Does the Admitted Student Website work? I mean, does being able to log in mean that you're in?

I applied fairly early on. I received the 'application complete' notification email from CLS sometime in the third/fourth week of Nov.

It does. I logged on successfully today using the information provided in the offer email but there was nothing on it at all for the moment. Absolutely empty.
