Columbia/Regular Action

I know a person who submited her application right before the december 15 deadline and was admitted about a week ago...

She must have impressed them or something.....Although I know it is a sort of random process it does beg the question....Why did they take so little time reviewing some applications while they wait until april to release some others?

Do they look at your application and say "not bad but we´re not convinced...Let´s review some other applications first....If no one better comes over, we´ll admit this person"

It´s kind of scary.....It´s a very painful wait.....

Where do you know this 'person'? You should cite your source, otherwise you would cause much unnecessary speculation and raise expectations in the most irresponsible manner.

The same can be said to the post by Hope2011. Please don't take it personally, guys.

Each year, decisions (regular cycle) start to be released in January. There are no speculation nor expectations here: the process is RANDOM.

I know top applicants who received their answers in April, others less "competitive" in February. Do not worry about others.

In my case, I work in the same Law firm of this person. So, I can say that my informattion is accurate (I did not provide the gender of this person in order to protect his/her identity).

Has anybody else received a request for a third recommendation letter? I submitted one letter from an employer and one from a dean whose research assistant I was in law school, but Columbia requested a third rec from a "law school professor who taught" me. Is this good or bad or neither?

The web site does not say "a professor who taught you in law school." It just says "a law professor". This dean is also a law professor.

You better send that 3rd letter asap. Don't think just do it.. honestly, If they didn't care about you they wouldn't have bothered to ask for a 3rd letter at all..

Sorry, I got excited with your news..

Best of luck

I applied 3 months ago and received the application complete email more than 2 months ago!

I wonder why Columbia's process is so random...

I´m agree. The only person who is already admitted that I know received his/her email like three weeks ago (when I commented the case in this forum).
Beside this person, I don´t know anybody else that had been already admitted.
I am wondering if the superior academic record of this person is the reason why he/she was admitted so early...
