Columbia LLM 2017

At this point I am seriously considering to request an expedited decision.... What takes them so long. It worries me that they mentioned in their e-mail of December acknowledging that my application was complete, that admissions could go through April.

Have been admitted to four other schools with 4/1 and 4/7 deadlines, and am really stressing out.

Does anyone have been waitlisted by Columbia yet? or do they not send waitlist decisions

I think you should request an expedited decision. They seem to be pretty efficient in handling those.

Nope - I requested for expedited decision a week ago - no reply, no acknowledgment either. Even if everyone starts writing to them requesting expedited decision, they can still only review so many applications at one time. I'm sure a LOT of people have already requested expedited decision and a lot more will, and the process will still remain random, especially at the eleventh hour.

I think at this point, its better to just wait. I too have admissions from two other colleges, I'm confirming one and paying deposit, but if I get through Columbia later, I'm just going to have to make that decision then, I suppose.

On expedited decisions again, considering that a lot of people are certainly requesting one right now and since a lot of deadlines for accepting an offer are coming beginning of April, what do you think I should do knowing that my deadline is April 13th?

In other words, is it a better idea to request it right now to give the Admissions Committee more flexibility to organise themselves while securing that I will receive a decision before my deadline or should I wait to be closer to my deadline before sending anything?

I have the exact same question. I am just scared that if we don't send out that email to Columbia, we will lose priority because they will start reviewing applications on the basis of whether or not an expedited review has been sought. But at the same time, i dont know if i should send one in now when the deadlines for my offers (NYU, Berkeley) is mid April because they may not take up my request for the decision as urgently when many of the other applicants have deadlines of April 01, 2017...

This is just my personal opinion - but I would ask for expedited decision, highlighting when exactly my deadlines are and requesting that you have a decision before then. This eliminates your worry that they will disregard your request, they will merely prioritize others with earlier deadlines (which, honestly, they would do anyway). And at least you will not have to worry about not doing everything in your powers to get a decision out of them:). I dont see a downside to asking for expedited decision. Historically, they have apparently been able to accommodate most (not saying all) of them. And yes, I asked for an expedited decision on my fin app too :).

Hi everyone,

Just got the admission offer from Columbia yesterday - moments before I was about to send an e-mail asking for an expedited decision. However, the admission offer does not contain a decision on financial aid. I know the CLS homepage says that financial aid decisions are rendered throughout May, but does anyone know from previous years when Columbia makes the majority of its scholarship offers? I have a deadline for accepting another offer in the beginning of April... Thanks!

Did the email say that they will start reviewing financial aid applications soon and let you know asap?

Yep, I was just checking. Well, I sent them a request for expedited decision on my fin aid application because I am in the same situation as OP. They said that "Financial aid decisions are made on a rolling basis until the end of April".

I did not explicitly ask for an expedited decision, but also wrote and informed them that I have to observe deadlines and would be pleased, if the Financial Aid Decisions would come before these deadlines ... Hoping the best :-)

Well phrased!:P I did not use the term "expedited decision" either but was pleased that they were able to read between the lines:). Good luck to you!

Just got admitted. I am from Pakistan by the way. I already had an acceptance from Chicago so I emailed Columbia and asked them for an expedited decision.

How long did they take to respond after your request for expedited review?

Hi, in the past, I requested expedited decision on financial aid and I was successful. I got tuition waiver. Do not hesitate to do the same if you need to know the decision on Fin aid to make your own decision on accepting an offer
