Hi MJ,
Congratulation for your future baby! When is the expected date of birth?
My partner is also expecting a baby for end of August. She (with the child) will join me in the course of September at Boalt.
I am therefore also applying for family student housing. I am now on waiting list. Do you have any experience with family student housing at Boalt and the likelihood to find housing through UC Berkeley's housing administration?
Looking forward to meeting you (and your little family) at Boalt in August.

Hi meijung2005 & Roger,
Congratulations on your coming babies!
BTW, did you succeed in applying for family housing without the admission package?
Can I apply for housing, leaving some column blank?

I have sent my application for family housing two weeks ago. My application is now complete and I was put on a waiting list.

Hi, Yossy,
Thanks. The only thing I worry is how to cope with the studying and child-caring, not to mention the additional expenses not within my original budget. But I definitely do not want to be deferred for an additional year because the tuition and living expenses at UC Berkeley increase every year.
Hi, Roger,
Sorry, I did not know the chance of getting an accommodation through UC Berkeley. I only know from a friend current in this LLM course that students only move from in-campus to off-campus accommodation, not vice versa. I think cost is one big reason. I think most LLM applicants applying for in-campus accommodation because we dont have time and effort to deal with potential landlords and compare with the communities for such 9-month course. University should offer a quality and safer place although it is not cheap and not furnished (not in Manville or Family Housing).
Although I am now on a waiting list of family housing (I applied on April 20), I have not completed my housing application procedure because I did not send them proof of admission and marriage certificate. I will clarify with the Apartment Assignment Office that whether emails admitting to the course and confirmation of SIR will be accepted as proof of admission (I thought I should give them an acceptance letter sent by post!) .
So your partner will come after the course begins? According to the family housing requirement, your partner should live with you at the beginning of the tenancy, which should be early August. Good luck to her and her baby who is one month older than mine (my delivery date will be Sep.27).

Hi, and congrats all! It seems that I am the only freak who s not having a baby! (Well, I´m 25...).
Regarding accommodation, I guess everybody now has started to find something. I sent the application for Manville apartments by post mail a few days ago. I am still not sure about that, but I wanted to start (just in case).
I haven t received the next steps package yet. I guess no one has

Hi Mel,
No idea. Maybe you could ask MJ (Meijung) who was admitted last year but whose admission was deferred to this year...
See in earlier post in this thread.
good luck if you choose to defer...
With respect to housing, I don't think it's too late! but if I were you, I would start as soon as possible because housing seems to be quite limited at UC Berkeley.
Best regards,
R.

No. As a matter of fact, I just submitted my request with SISS and posted supporting documents by DHL yesterday.
I won't be surprised that it takes ages for them to process.

Well, I sent them the cover page and related documents on may 22...When I sent them an email asking for confirmation of receipt, they just said "don t contact us again for this, this will only slow the process". So far, I have no confirmation that they received this papers. (also used DHL)

Hi All,
I was granted a Fulbright scholarship. In this framework I will need a J-1 visa and not a F-1 visa.
I do not need therefore the I-20. I should inform the SISS thereof.
Any other people in the same situation?
Best regards,
R.

Hello Roger. Congratulations! I'm admitted to the class 2007/2008, while have not received I-20 and the said "package" yet. I live and work in Beijing. Wonder how diversified our classmates would be. Anyone prefer to accommodation in Albany?

Hey everybody,
Roger, I'm in the same situation. Please feel free to pm me. Moreover - if I remember it well - we got the same mother language. ;-)
See you soon guys,

Roger, answer your question on number of our class. I got a mail from llmadmis confirming that the number is about 100. So it's a big class, while still smaller than Harvard or Columbia.
Are you on the waiting list for west or east village flat/townhouse in Albany?
Yuan, Jianan

Thanks for this useful answer and nice to meet you Yuan.
I note that the class is larger than last years...I met last week 3 Belgian people who will join Boalt in August. There will be therefore at least 4 Belgians (3 French-speaking and 1 Dutch-speaking) at Berkeley this year...
I am on waiting list for student family housing (in East village and Smyth Fernwald Complex). I have not heard anything from them yet.

Has anyone heard something from Boalt about financial aid?

Has anyone received I-20 already? Is there anything wrong with Berkeley?

Hi all.
I have received the I-20, and tomorrow is the interview here at the US Embassy.
No news about financial aid application. About this, I think they are not serious anymore. It can´t be this way. Nobody (at least not me) can manage to work on other resources one month before classes.
Of course, that is my opinion.
