i do not understand how one measures reputation but I am working 7 years in practice and I can assure you that Swansea LLM is well respected by international firms and companies= I am referring to LLM here not generally UNiversity rankings

Newcastle is a good law school. It has a very good reputation in the legal profession. They are a selective school with a good LLB and the LLM reflects their research.
Out of all of them Newcastle is a very good option and not to mention that it is a Russell group university.
I will keep reiterating that for postgraduate taught programmes you have to go to the best school you get into, which in this case is Newcastle. The whole purpose of a postgraduate taught programme is to increase your employability and get a good name in your CV so please attend the best schools you get into.

Do any offer taster sessions or a short pre-LLM programme or something similar? If that's a possibility perhaps attending those will help? Otherwise have you visited the universities/met with staff...doing that might cement your decision! Otherwise all I can say is, it's warmer down the south of England!

And it's rainier down the south of Wales ;-)
(If you cannot stand the rain, don't go to Swansea ;-))

i don t wish to be rude towards any programme but out of the ones you mentioned Swansea is the only progranne that international employers know best =rankings mostly produced by taking undergraduate data not postgraduate so i agree with flori

Hi Kosta,
I will have to dissagree with you as based on my experience swansea is the least repute out of the aforementioned universities
law01
With due respect, I think that your information is not up to date. I am working in the sector and I only hear about how good Swansea is and that employers prefer to hire Swansea LLM graduates because of the quality of education they have received in Swansea and the excellent preparation they receive to work in practice. I also spoke with someione who attended the Career Fair at Swansea this March, who told me that the Fair attacted the leading employers in the shipping sector, who were impressed by the quality of the Swansea LLM students. I visited the Swansea LLM website recently and I have been impressed once again with the positions the Swansea LLM graduates hold. Also the LLM students are receiving prizes from leading shipping firmes lime Ince and Holmans.

Hi kosta,
You basically back what i said in a previous post (i think in a different thread). Swansea has a very good maritime LLM that's why it is well respected in the shipping sector and i agree with this! But the poster said thay he is interested in business/commercial law. Which is not so good at swansea

Dear all,
I got another recommendation from education agency about Aberystwyth University, LLM in International Commercial Law. It is located in wales..
With my non experience studying in UK, anyone has any suggestion about here e.g. reputation in Law in international or within UK, possibility to get work after graduate etc.
Thank you in advance.

Hello ammikhar,
anyone has any suggestion about here e.g. reputation in Law in international or within UK, possibility to get work after graduate etc.
From my point of view, this new option has immediately won the "worst option"-crown. (Just my personal opinion)
What about your other options presented so far?
Bye

Dear Flori,
Currently, with my current IELTS score, there are only 2 remaining options which are:
1. Take 10 weeks English pre-sessional course before studying LLM at Newcastle University - For my concern, fee is quite expensive and I'm afraid that I may not be able to apply visa in time.
2. Take 6 weeks English pre-sessional course before studying LLM at Swansea University. - I'm waiting for his confirmation about fee.
About Aberystwyth University, I can study without any pre-sessional course. But if you said so, I have to think about this again.
If you have any suggestion, please feel free to advise.
Thank you very much...

Hello ammikhar,
in the end the differences between the language requirements are another argument against Aberystwyth, lower language requirements generally signify less sophisticated seminars and discussions in class. Don't do it - go to Newcastle or Swansea.
If the money for the pre-sessional course is an issue, I recommend waiting another year and improving your IELTS score in the meantime.

I did my LLM in International Commercial Law in Swansea a couple of years ago and I now work as a lawyer in one of the big banks in my country. What first impressed me in Swansea was the wide range of options I had to choose from, i.e. Company Law, Banking, 2 courses on IP, E-Commerce etc. I wanted to take all of them! The lecturers were great and always thereto help me with everything i needed. The city is picturesque and the cost of life rather low. I am still in contact with a lot of my classmates, who also have very good jobs in leading law firms or other companies and we collaborate on cases. I am glad that I decided to study in Swansea, which will always be in my heart!!

Dear Geox1980
Thank you for your sharing. My course is as same as your.
Did you graduate in LLB..?
I am quite nervous because of my non education background in law field. So, do you have any recommendation about preparing before studying..??
About accommodation, I am also looking for it. Do you have any advice?
Thank you in advance.

Dear ammikhar
Just relax a bit.
if you want to prepare, read some contract, tort and international law texbooks.
Re accomodation, the rooms are very good. I stayed in Beck house (10 minutes walk through a great park). There are also rooms on campus, where you just wake up and go to the class. I personally liked Beck house. It is very quiet and nice. But I think you have to apply soon. When I applied for accomodation, the deadline was at the end of June.

I second the "Beck House"-recommendation - indeed very nice... If you prefer private accommodation, the area around Singleton Park or Mumbles might be something to look at...

Dear Flori,
I have now applied for Beck House also but will get confirmation by mid of July about availability.
If not, I have to look for another. I will find around Singleton park and Mumbles per your advice. Thank you so much.
