Oxford BCL/MJur 2019-2020

Hi guys, this is not a stricte BCL question but maybe someone could help me haha. I got an email today from Oxford saying that they are unable to make a final decision on my application at this stage and will consider it in the next application deadline. Do you reckon it is a good sign or a gentle way of saying PFO? I've applied for the Msc in taxation.

Good luck everyone with your apps!

Hi, you should check the following link: https://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate/after-you-apply/decision-timeline?wssl=1#outcomes and in particular ‘Re-evaluation in a later deadline’. You haven’t been rejected, which is definitely a good sign, but it seems that your application will be asssessed against other new ones from the following deadline.

Good luck!

Do you think it means that they have already processed all the applications and we will hear from then soon?

Yes, as charlielim already said, the MSc in Taxation has two deadlines, whereas BCL has only one. Interestingly, the 25th of January is the first Taxation deadline and the only one BCL deadline, but it really depends on the department.

Hey guys! I just saw that they were sending out offers for the MLF as of today. Do you think we should be hearing from the BCL/MJur a bit sooner than expected since the deadline for submitting MLF applications was also set on the 25th of January?

Holy shhh...it's true. The MLF forum is brimming with acceptances (well 3 acceptances but still). Maybe someone can call Oxford to ask? Anyone from the UK willing to volunteer?

Much as I understand the sense of anticipation, the fact is that offers will be made when they are made. What we think doesn't matter, and calling Oxford isn't going to speed up the process.

My suspicion is that they have deliberately timed the decision deadlines so that offers are made for mlf first so that they can take people who have accepted a position in that program out of the pool for bcl applications.

If it were the case that people were only given a couple of days to decide whether to accept their MLF offer, this might make sense. But it isn't, so it doesn't.

What I thought. In addition to that there are conditional offers...

Someone called the Faculty and they said offers and rejections should be released around the 14th of March.

Anyone else just agonizing over the wait now?

I don’t even have high chances but as the end is near, the wait is killing me!

Same here. I'm distracting myself with work just to forget about the admissions results. But as it turns out, I still visit this forum often.

Yeah, I’ve been refreshing this forum every 15mins or something, hoping that someone says they got an email so we know it begins.

As far as I know, decisions will come this week. Someone apparently called the Faculty to confirm + last year, BCL/MJur offers came out 6 days after MLF offers which should take us to tomorrow/Wednesday/Thursday. Also, some people would get offers at rather late hours of the day (like 8pm), so I’ll be pointlessly refreshing my emails until then!

The wait is just inhumane, plus I have the Chevening interview tomorrow! Good luck to everyone, may the Force be with you.
