Does "awaiting GAO approval" 100% mean we got in? :) I'm a bit confused by this admission process haha !
Me too, and even after googling 1 hour I could not find a proper answer. But most people seem to agree that it is very unlikely to get rejected at that stage. This article from Cambridge uni (https://www.graduate.study.cam.ac.uk/application-process/what-happens-next) says the following:
"GAO co-ordinates the admission process, and will assess the application following the Degree Committee’s decision to admit. This office makes the official offer of admission on behalf of the University.
GAO will also assess the documents submitted for meeting the conditions of your offer and confirm your admission. If your admission is confirmed, the GAO will also process your CAS if you require a Tier 4 visa.
How long does the process take?
It may take approximately ten days from degree committee approval for you to receive a decision from the Graduate Admissions Office (GAO).
If you are made an offer and provide documents to meet the conditions of your offer, these documents take around ten days to process."
So it seems the GAO is more or less a body which is only responsible for the administrative part of the admission. So they'll probably only reject you when there is a problem with your documents or if you don't meet the minimum criteria like grades and language requirements. Which seems to happen very rarely, as anecdotal evidence suggests...

Current LLM Candidate at Cambridge here! From what I can recall, I received my offer around 15 days after my status changed to awaiting approval by GAO. Haven't heard of a case where an offer wasn't extended to someone who went on to the GAO approval step. Congrats to all of you! Don't worry if the offer takes some time to come in. Last year they were sent out on a period spread over two weeks.

FYI, there were a bit less than 1200 applications for the LLM last year and 359 offers were made. Around 180 of these offers were accepted.

Recieved my conditional offer about 10 mins back. I was awaiting GAO approval for a week.
