I couldn't agree more with the description - a shockingly beautiful moment. A huge congratulations!!

People who've received the email for the conditional offer, would you mind letting us know how long it took from the day you received a status update (awaiting approval from GAO), to the day you received the official email?

I personally received Ms Wade's email the day after I noticed the change to GAO's approval on my portal.

Still "under review by department". Starting to get really nervous!

I am also still under department review - getting a bit nervous as most people seem to have heard!

Got offer email from S Wade last Friday.

To anyone who has been successful, what do you think are traits that Cambridge look for in applicants / what do you think made your application stand out?

My profile was/is pretty straightforward. Decent grades overall (only 3.5/8 firsts), but an excellent result in my specialty (best grade for past 5+ years in a uni known for the subject). Really narrowed in on it for my statements which stated why I wanted to develop my knowledge further.

Also amazing references, which I think was what did it for me. Emeritus Prof who basically founded her field (who I also research for), and full Prof who's younger but very well known.

Not much work experience, only one mini in the UK in a different area. Main experience is a clinic I'm currently part of, also in my specialty.

LSE is more competitive this year. They had an abnormally high admit:offer rate for 2018/19 and ended up enrolling more than they planned for (bc obviously you can't revoke offers just because too many people are accepting them). It's a particular issue at LSE this year because of actual capacity constraints. This is also around the time they close applications anyway. If you think you're being swindled of your application fee because they're effectively not considering anyone anymore, you could inquire with them.

I think it is. I read on LSE forums that people are being rejected saying that the slots are full. Even though I don't think that's entirely true, since they can always waitlist or reserve people.

Last year I had applied on February 13, 2018 for 2018-19. I was put in a reserve list - which according to their website means that my application was good but the slots were full. They told me they'd tell me in August after people pay their fees if slots are remaining. Since they did not have any slot, the gave me an option of reinstating my application even before the cycle opened, which I did and got an offer on December 17, 2018.

So I think that the application may be late for LSE and UCL both.

Hi, new here - but have been keeping an eye for the last week to see how progress is going so thanks all for sharing!!

I’m still under review too.

In response to the above post, do people think it’s too late to apply to LSE etc? I thought it probably was but might apply if it’s worth a shot.

I wasn’t in the gang from the start but I’ve followed the thread from it’s inception because I got rejected last yr from both oxford and Cambridge and was determined to fix my application this year.
My status said under department review up to this afternoon.... then it changed to GAO and within about 3-4 hrs I got conditional offer. However my status is still GAO online... figure it’s because they haven’t actually processed the details of the offer yet.

Hmm... what’s diffferent...I think the headline things would be:
- Last yr I applied with an expected first (but it was bordlining with 2:1)—> this yr I have I actually graduated with the first.
- law prize added to my CV
- changed one referee.... he knew me but I didn’t write many essays (mostly problem questions) for him to comment on my academic abilities from his personal perspective. So ultimately I had two great and reputable referees for whom I wrote lengthy research essays for, and knew me quite well.

Hey guys. I received an offer letter from Ms Wade this morning. However my status on my Applicant Portal is still “under review by department”. Congratulations to everyone who got in, hope to see all of you in a few months and good luck to everyone who’s still waiting!

Am so broken. I got rejected and yet I had gotten an admission last year. I failed to get funding and hoped to get it this year. Happy for all those who got admitted ( Please grab the opportunity at all costs) and to all those waiting on responses, good luck.
