Cambridge Application 2021-2022

Gobbledygo...

Received a Condition Offer!

Since I was so focused on gaining admission, I never bothered to check out the Colleges.

In my application I didn't choose any colleges.

I'm wondering if I can phone up and still give a preference?

Also... can I apply for funding to every college or am I restricted to the college that I become a member of?

At least formally you can't ask for a preference now. You've already got an offer, so a random college has now been sent your application for first review based on their algorithm. You can always try asking them, but PAO isn't the most customer-friendly at this time of the year.

You can apply for funding at any college which has funds that state that they are open for anyone to apply. It will take you a while to check them out, but most funds will in one way or another state who can and cannot apply. Not too many of the funds require a 1st pref as a condition to apply anymore, but quite a few of them will give *preference* to those who put the college as a first pref (they will specifically state this in the funding information). The odds of getting those funds are very low, since there will usually be someone else who picked that college as a first pref who at the very least ranks the same as you, effectively giving them the award (especially for the funding open to all disciplines). If you get any of these awards, you will be asked to move to the college which grants this award.

Other colleges will have a different funding application process altogether, i.e. you can only apply after you get admission. Then they will send you the information.

A lot of college funds are already past their application deadline, but if you check through all of them, you will probably be able to find a few that can be applied to and which don't require having already been admitted to the college.

May I ask has anyone received a conditional offer with unsatisfied language scores, please ? For example, IELTS writing score is 6.5 rather than 7.
I changed to PAO on 1st March, too. And it is stuck at PAO as it is since then. I started to feel like  such situation happened due to my language scores.
Many thanks to you and congrats to all offer-holders!

Hi JessieY, I received a conditional offer, despite the fact that my overall TOEFL score (108) and IELTS writing score (6.5) did not meet the minimum requirements. Hope this makes you feel more relieved.

Hi, I also received a conditional offer even when I submitted my application without any language scores at all (TOELF/IELTS) so you should not be worried about it.

ps. My native language is Spanish.

Thank you so much for your reply. My first language is Chinese.

I heard the offer-news form applicants in my home country with satisfied language scores recently which made me feel kinda anxious and start to guess the reason why I haven't received it yet as it has been quite a period since PAO.
Thank you again bc92.scl

Hey! I am also stuck on PAO and I am a native speaker, graduated from a UK university and also living here :) so it may not be that!

Hi guys, congrats to all that got their offer (been silently following for a while now)!

I'm starting to get pretty nervous (and tbh a bit pissed lol) as I'm still stuck in PAO (moved there 27th Feb). Anyone else, perhaps?
I really wonder what's taking them so long...1f914

I have a quick quiery. If my letter states ‘seeking college admission’ does that mean I was rejected from my 1st/2nd choice? Or will they formallt reject me.

I felt like you just now. I asked my friends who changed to PAO, they all got admitted eventually. Please wait in peace. My experience told me that anxiety cannot help at all. Best wishes to you!
FYI : Timeline of my friends and I:
A got his offer  2 weeks ago.
B got his offer  on yesterday.
I just got mine 1 hour before.

Hey there! No, it doesn't. It means that you are currently being considered for your first choice. If you get rejected by your first choice, it will say 'Unsuccessful at (Your first choice), seeking college membership' and will pass on your application to your second choice. Then, if you are rejected by your second choice, it will say 'Unsuccessful at (Your second choice), seeking college membership' and will put your application for other colleges to take a looksy at :) P.S. You won't get an email if you get rejected. You'll only get an email if you get accepted from a college :)

Honestly- That's quite a relief to hear 1f605 I almost thought I'd be the only one..
Sometimes the representativeness of this forum is just a bit too misleading haha.

Fingers crossed we'll see some movement on our status tmr!

For those stucked at PAO, remember that they're processing the applications manually, as stated in the e-mail sent on February 26 (the relevant part of the e-mail is transcribed below). Considering the replies to the thread so far, the majority of status changes in the Portal occurred around 5:00PM (UK time), mine included. And the replies also indicate that they are releasing very few offers per day (remember they also process the applications from all the other departments). But hang in there, yours is coming!

In this e-mail we will tell you about the status of your application, fees and funding. Please read it carefully. We kindly ask you to only e-mail us if there is a problem and please bear with us while we process offers and reply to enquiries.

Status of your application

Once an application is approved by your department, it comes to us. This is when the status of your application changes on your portal to ‘Awaiting approval from PAO’ or ‘Awaiting approval from GAO’. All applications enter a queue and we need to process them manually. Under normal circumstances, we would do this in one or two weeks. Given how the pandemic has affected us, it’s taking longer to process applications. We are currently processing applications that we received on the 13 February.

The deadline to accept the offer is 31st of July, right? I'm paranoid that I might have missed an earlier deadline that was explicitly stated in the offer.
