emttlf has 20+ in fact everyone who does the program gets a scholarship this is a major point of contention i have with the program as it could be easily abused. If no one is paying their way through the program it's much harder to make sure that we are getting quality.

Yeah well, I think this will only be the case in the first years of the program and eventually they will start getting more students or cutting down the number of scholarships. But I believe emttlf students take part of the regular classes of the uni in the year of specialization, so I dont think quality will be affected.
Do you know how many applications emttlf receives?

Well, quality is not a problem in EMTTLF. I am following it.... When I applied to it, last year, there were around 500 applications. We are just 22 students, of course, the best for them. I tend to think that their most important criteria for choosing us was academic performance in our bachelors'degree. It is true that almost all the students got a sholarship, but the selection process is competitive enough. That doesn't mean that they are just giving money to everybody who wants to apply. And even if your ideas were accurate, not everybody have a scholarship now.... If you want to pay for the tuition fee, you can, as at least one of my classmates' case, but first, you need to be chosen for the programme... The system they have towards scholarships assure they can choose the best ones, and to be honest, is the only programme I've heard of that really looks for other scholarships available for the European students who don't have the full scholarship from European Commission. In other words, apart from the partial scholarship that the European Commission gives to the European students, the coordinators of the programme apply for them to other sources of funding, and they are pretty succesful in getting them.
Regarding the non-European students, we are 12 in total. Actually, just 10, if you are not from the Balcans' countries (they have 2 spots reserved just for them). So you actually compete amongst a lot of people, and the scholarship just goes to 10. No nationality has more than 1 student, at least for my year's selection (2010-2012).
Last year I got my e-mail on february, and the deadline to apply was January 31st. As this year the deadline to apply was different, I guess the selection will take more time. You will get the good news, officially, at the end of March (the official letter of acceptance, scanned, after you submit the documents in a hard copy.

tks aguacata! It is great to have insight info. I appreciate you taking the time to share your comments. I figured the number of applicants was near to 500, so the admission rate is very low. It is obviously a very, very, very competitive program. I have no doubt about the quality of the program since the universities involved are excellent and the currículum is really great. I hope they consider my profile is good enough to be one of the 10 third country students admitted!

Would you mind to share the average profile of an emttlf student, as to work experience, previous llm degrees, etc?

On the other hand, it seems they are looking for diversity regarding nationalities, are there many students from south américa?

Thanks in advance!

hi Luka! how do you judge "Technically the Emttlf is on track"?? Any feedback from Spain? Thx!

"Ended up doing something diffrent" - so no.

Technically the Emttlf is on track - and should have had their selection sometime last week, the emle has someone new runing the show and G-d knows what's her schedule, though techincally she has untill the end of the month.

it's just that here were some admin issues with the Emle application this year - so i just want to make sure that they are on track, any news on that front will be MOST appreciated, so that i can start emailng them for an update.

I am just antsy because i expected the results sooner , and i (along with the rest of humanity) hate waiting.

mmm... I am not sure, but it is possible. I applied in october, a few weeks after the app period opened, and my ref number is 480 or something. If that number reflects the number of applications, that means almost 50% of the applicants applied in those first weeks. A lot of competition uh...

yeah that's possible. I think it's because they are receiving more applications this year, so they need more time for selection......I am not that patient.......lol

l will just wait a couple of weeks. The application period closed only a week ago, so I think 2 or 3 weeks for studying all the 1000 applications is more than acceptable. But if you decide to contact them, I wont mind if you share the info with me :)

as far as the emttl(f) goes -

a. for the first year the emmtl students are not in anyway integrated in the faculty - and it should have been obvious, unless you also have spanish and ducth i cant see how you could expect to attend the regualr classes in Deusto and Tillberg. some non emttlfers might join the clasesses from international programs, and the program might be audited by any number of outsiders, this however does not change the fact that over 95% of your academic interaction (for the first year) is with fellow emttlfers, this is why I - would take great intrest in learning who will attend the program should i be admitted.

b. the number of applicants is to be frank not an indecation of anything except the number of applicants - there is no application fee for the emttlf, which means that it is almost cost free to apply, so you can easily expect a great deal of sub par applicants saying "why not?" and pressing the submit button, if you want a better reffrence just use the Emle number of 500 and assume it's your pool of competition (due to a similarity of the nature of the programs it appeals to similar people) so that's 25/500 meaning a 1/20 acceptance rate, as far as i am concerned that's great odds.

b1. one potentially important point is that the rules for erasmus schoalrships have changed and as of last year the funds are also available to EC students - what effect that had on the numbers and relative strenghth of applicants is unclear - but in theory the selction can be expected to be more rigorous.

c. Deadlines - i am not overly worried about the emttlf - as they only stopped accepting applicants a week ago - and as it is atleast a two tier selction process; Deusto & ILF\ Strassbourg (as second year universeties have their own say on the matter) results before mid march would be extremly unlikely.

The emle -

D. the Emle on the other hand - is much more worrying, the selection is carried out all in rotterdam and they have been sitting on the apps since mid november at the latest. Last year i would have recived news almost a month ago. What i did notice is that the person charged with the adminstration has changed so it might be just due to their relative lack of experience, or a change in work protocol - they have clearly listed that they have untill end of February so i am not going to as much as think of writing them untill march 1st.
