LLM students get first preference at graduate residencies in U town. so u will for sure get ur place.

This sounds like music to me...

@ Aishnat: BTW there are married accomodations in U town and Prince Geoge's Park... Check for them university housing website....

Thanks for the info...Does it make sense to stay off campus and travel? How workable is that option?

@rkarthik: I've seen the site but the online applications open only by May 15th I think. Is that correct?

Guys, it's not going to help you particularly to get in touch with people who have done your specialization before, mainly because to get the specialization you only need to do 24 credits worth of modules and especially for corporate and general specialization LLMs, obviously the choice of modules is really wide. Again, it's no help asking for notes for e.g. the corporate LLM, because you can have 2 people who have the specialization but who took totally different modules. It would help you more to ask about specific modules, professors etc.

The modules which were available last year are found here: http://law.nus.edu.sg/student_matters/course_listing/elective_subjects.html

It should be updated in mid-June for the coming academic year, if I remember correctly.

Hello,

So you are doing general, I will say that you have chosen the best option available at NUS. You have an option to read any module you like and even if you want u can change it to a particular specialization by just reading 24 credits of any particular specialization. In short you have no restrictions. And as your going to be friend/classmate said you need to tell modules not specialization for notes.

And I dont know who told you to collect notes, its of no use at all ,you are provided with study material by college , every thing is online . Moreover if you want to make most out of your LLM dont take notes before hand. Believe you me they will be hardly of any use. I dont knw any one( from India)who takes down notes for continues 3 hrs, most will be incomplete.

So just relax in a month you all will adjust to the environment.

Thanks Legaleagle

I had a query about changing LLM General to specialisation.

First and foremost, how does the industry (job-market) view the degree. Suppose Mr. A does with LLM (CFL) and Mr. B does LLM (General).. Which candidate is given preference. As per my understanding, a candidate with LLM (CFL) would get preference if he plans to enter the financial legal sector.

Secondly, if an LLM General persons wants to change to specialisation, he has to complete 24 credits. So when do we need to complete the said credits? in the first sem itself? If yes, that would mean, we need to select all 24 credits / 6 subjects of the first sem from the course of that said specialisation. Can you please clarify? Also, are there any other requirements for changing the course to specialisation?

Thanks.

1. Doesnt matter to legal market whether you are doing general or CFS , ur module matters .. and I dont think that it affects the job search in any way, because might end up reading same modules. And please see getting jobs here is not as easy as it use to be in 2007-2008 , all depends on your luck. ya but chances are better than US or UK.

2. Once you chose your second sem modules you can ask law school to change ur LLM to specialization (vice-versa), a friend of mine did same. Y you'll want to read all modules in 1st sem you have got a chance unlike India to explore so explore new fields na .. try some thing new and interesting .. And in any case if u end up taking all CFS core modules you will be heavily burdened and its tough to match the course needs.. so try taking one light module(difficult to find) and one intensive ..relaxes the work load a lot ... Get to know abt Professors who are real legal minds here .. they are superb in the way they teach. Like Simon Chesterman, Alan Tan , Umakant Varotill , etc etc

Just want to understand the concept of course shifting:

So that means, we can stretch those 24 credits for 2 Semesters rather than completing 24 credits in the first Sem itself. For eg. complete 12 credits in Sem 1 and select 12 credits for Sem 2 and make request to University to change from General to specialisation. Is this understanding correct?

Although i understand that the study in CFL specialisation would be pretty heavy if we select all subjects from a specialisation, but would it be advisable to take up subjects to explore new areas rather than taking up those subjects related to your field?

Also, i believe we would get to know the professors in the first sem, so we would be able to wisely select our subjects for the second sem only.

In the first place, you can't do 24 credits in one semester, only 20. So I think it does not matter how you allocate between the two semester as long as after you have finalized your module selection for Semester 2, you have at least 24 credits in a particular specialization, then you should get that specialization.

Also, modules in semester 1 and 2 are different, virtually none run in both semesters, therefore it would be better to do more research in advance on the courses and professors before you start the first sem.

Has anyone received the second email from NUS?

Also, I needed a clarification on student visa. Am moving to S'pore by June end. I understand I need to get a social visit pass before the course starts in August. What is the process to shift from the social pass to a student pass? Is it a difficult one?

Thanks,

Aishwarya

Yup 28th is the deadline for those who have received the mail today....

Correction to my earlier post...
Also the declaration of Subsidy for and photo (as per the specification) has to be sent...

Medical tests forms have to be carried with us to Singapore and to be submitted to the ICA and NUS by hand... Or else we can get the medical tests done there itself (in NUS)
