Hi
I hope all of us have received the IPA. So the obvious questions which roll out are:-
1. The bank draft for the fee, is it to be paid for the whole year?
2. The medical tests to be done, are most of us getting them done in the home countries?
3. Where have most of us booked the stay? and finally
4. People flying from India, when are u planning departures?
Cheers

Hi Guys,
About IPA - Just some advice - You will need to pay for the immigration stuff only twice (unless sth changed), this includes the IPA and student pass. SO dont be confused and dont pay some fees twice as some people did last year. In case you need to pay second time in the immigration office, be aware that last year they did not accept credit card nor cash. We had to pay by cash card, which first you have to top up in some shops.
About Medical check ( this is rather For IBL program students) I do recommend to do all your medical check in Singapore, as China Embassy accepts only the SGH medical report. SGH will NOT charge you more for feeling additional report for NUS neither for Singapore Immigration Office (last year they did not). I did my medical check in my home country plus I paid for sworn translation - I never used any of those documents. As I had to do everything again in SGH, I wasted some money plus I had twice X-ray:( Singapore authority is much more easy going...
About tuition fee at least for IBL last year, we had to pay everything at once, during registration. I guess it is similar with other courses.
About dress code (old topic above) despite what is written in the guidebook, at least one year ago, there was no strict dress code. Many people were dressed simply in shorts and t-shirts. However remember about few things. The AC in classroom might be a pain so take some sweater or anything similar simply not to freeze. In the clubs you are not allowed to enter in the flip-flops thus u should have a good shoes, long pants, and some shirt. Some of you will have an internship (for sure IBL) thus you should have a suit or something you can work in office or in the court. The court requested to have black pants/skirt and white shirt. I dont know if it was very strict last year as I was working in law office. Neither I know if there are some changes this year.
Anyway, You will have a fantastic year in NUS. This Im sure!
Take care all
Andrzej

To Sri12345,
1. I havent received any mail about payment of fees yet, and as far as I remember, NUS had written in one of their communications that fees is to be paid semesterwise.
2. I had thought I would get the medicals done in India only, but after APGs mail, will be reconsidering that.
3. I have booked in Evans Lodge
4. Havent booked my flight yet, shall let you know when booked.
In fact, I wanted to ask everyone on the Board, is it ok if we book a one way ticket? I am asking because there was some confusion a few weeks back on the Board that we have to book a return ticket otherwise Singapore doesnt let you in. I hope that confusion is clear now and we can safely book a one way ticket? Please let me know what all of you have decided in this regard.
Also, have you guys received any communication with regard to payment of fees?
Thanks in advance.

Hi APG,
I'm guessing that you've just completed your IBL course at Shanghai. I'll be doing IBL this coming August and have just received the course outline & exam info, which absolutely terrifies me.
I wonder if you can shed some light on the course assessment. How are the exams? Difficult? How does a take-home exam operate? What about assessments for assignment? How does the grading system operate?
I'm sorry to inundate you with a million questions, but I'm desperate for answers, which I think only an ex-student like you, can supply.
Thank you very very much for the help.

Hi guys, one clarification:
@ FaithHope9: regarding medical examination: I was writing to IBL students, as they will move to China and Chinese Embassy has some special requirements. For example requires to do the medical examination in SGH. If you are not on IBL please note that Singapore authority should not be so strict, and maybe will accept your medical report from your country. I don't know exactly how it looked like last year but You should get some information from NUS in one of the emails they send to everybody.
@thesaffron - no worries, ask me as many questions as you have:) I will answer them a bit later though (pretty busy right now)...
cheers

Hi APG,
Thanks very much for your support!:) I will also be participating in IBL program this year, so I have some questions:
1. is it possible to pay tuition fee from my home country via bank transfer (you have mentioned that we have to pay during registration, however, paying via bank transfer seems more easy for me)?
2. where have you stayed in Shanghai (I have received some negative comments regarding dormitory offered)?
Looking forward to receive your comments,
Thanks in advance,
A.
