Well, I didn't read anything into that last statement... Just taking it as it comes along rather than think of the worst... Only way I can handle this... :P

So...anyone got admitted/rejected?
Posted Jan 22, 2009 17:40
My application was deferred to the regular admission cycle, too.
I sincerely suspect that UPenn wasn't able to handle the large number of apps. received, and that they simply opted to defer all early apps. decisions. (I will hold this statement true for myself until a fellow LL.M.-Guide user communicates his/her early admission in this topic...)!
"Dear _____
Thank you for applying to Penn Law's LLM program as part of the Early Notification pool.
After careful consideration, the International Programs Committee has now made final determinations -- "admit" or "reject" -- with regard to a large percentage of candidates from around the world.
We have, however, received what is probably an unprecedented number of applications from what is certainly an unprecedented number of countries. Those applications reflect a tremendous breadth of qualifications and talents. The process of selection has been, accordingly, very difficult.
Consequently, the Committee felt in a number of instances that it could not take definitive action on a candidate's qualifications without reference to the general applicant pool. Your application was included in this group.
The Committee will now continue to hold your completed file while it undertakes its review of the general application pool. We anticipate taking action on all remaining applications -- "admit", "reject", or "wait list" -- before March 1.
Please be assured that we understand the stress of continued uncertainty and that we will do our best to expedite the process as much as possible. If you wish to withdraw your name from further consideration, and we hope you do not, please visit us at the web address below:

To be honest, do not think they don't have enough time to review all early decision files, as it is only 23rd Jan now. I do believe that it states in the email is true - the competition is really keen. I guess those being deferred still have at least no worse (if not better) chance compared with the regular pool applicants.
franziskaner - who has been admitted to Michigan, which is without any doubt a decent law school, and myself, who has been admitted by GULC, Duke and NU as the very first batch are both deferred. Maybe this can support my points above.
Buddies, what made you upset is not the possibility of not entering Penn, but the suspect on yourself. You do not need to do that due to one letter from Penn - what you have/who you are will not be changed by an email from Penn. Am I wrong?

Dear Bliss, I must confess that I am relaxed only because I've already been admitted to the U. of Michigan Tax LL.M.
So, UPenn really doesn't matter much anymore for me (unless they grant me a full or very generous scholarship, which will almost certainly not happen ;-)!
Let's wait... good luck to you all.

Honestly, I think that your 2nd paragraph, in conjunction with the lack of actual admitted/rejected applicants in this thread, only corroborates my point of view.
However, I will agree with U as sooon as admission/rejections posts start to appear in this forum...

Fortunately, i have got in Vanderbilt ....so atleast something is better than nothing and for now am really trying hard to get some scholarship from the School ...... but yes being deferred make you again be very hopeful and anxious too!

Deferred, as well!!!
I really don't buy the "U Penn didn't have enough time to review all applications" theory, especially since the deadline for U Penn to answer is more than 2 weeks ahead...
I think it simply means that we will either : 1) get admitted direclty prior to the March 1st deadline or 2) get "waitlisted" in a decent position.
I'm sure that many people will get a rejection letter in the following 2 weeks, and that we should be rather happy to be deferred... At least, that's what I'm trying to convince myself of...
But let's keep our hopes up!
Cheers

In fact I have completed my online applicationt he 21st November, but my transcripts from LSAC were only received by Penn the 11th of December so I don't know if I was still qualified for early notification.
Probably not, as I have not received an e-mail :(
