NYU Taxation

tchoummi

I'd like to know which LLM specialized in taxation is the best one at NYU : Graduate Tax Program or International Taxation? As far as I am concerned, I do not want to work in the USA, but in an US law firm in France : What do you suggest?

Thx

Unequivocally, International taxation program would be a great shot.

I guess you would be better off pursuing the Int'l LLM degree, since the GTP is more focused on domestic tax law.

ivan- On different lines, do you have a sense of the number of students admitted for the Intl tax program and the Corporation Law prog. Also, does the corporation law program tend to have a lesser percentage of foreign lawyers?

I'm currently in the ITP, we are 25 students from 21 countries

Marungu- Thanks for sharing the information. I am planning to apply for the ITP/ Corporation law program and was under the impression that the seats available are a lot more than you mentioned (for ITP), Do you know of situations where people have been offered a diff, course than what they had applied for?
I am stuck b/w ITP and Corporation Law as most of skill sets and work-ex makes me a reasonably suitable candidate for both the prograns, Obviously i would like to apply for the program with more availability of seats.
Any clue on the number of seats available under the Corporation law prog? Just curious, which country are you from?
Thanks again for the info.

No clue about the exact number of students admitted to the Corporate Law LLM, but I would say it be around 35-50. I guess your choice should depend on the field you are more acquainted with. If you want to take courses on both fields, however, you could think about applying to the General Studies program and take courses on both Tax and Corporate law subjects.

Thanks Ivan. Other than NYU, I plan to apply to most univ. for a General LLM as i belive that the market value of a Corporation LLM (NYU) is much higher than a general one. Please share your thoughts. Alternatively, i understand that under the General LLM, one can chose many courses (inclding ones related to Corp. and tax laws) that are similar to the courses one can chose to take for the Bar. In the light of all this, does it make more sense to do a General LLM if your motive is to get to the bar?
It will be great if u can share with me the number of seats allotted for the General LLM course at NYU.
On a separate note, do u have an idea if one can stretch the word limit allotted under the Personal Statement,. If yes, by how much? 500 (for NYU) is the tightest limit i am working on with.
