NYU LLM 2014

Even though it's relatively early in the process, but I thought I'd start this thread for people who are interested in applying for NYU's LLM in 2014. We can discuss application tips, etc.

Looks like the deadline for those who have a law degree from outside of the US (like me) is coming up on December 16th.

Hej there :) Today I have finally managed to arrange all my docs to be send to LSAC, so now I have to focus on my application. I have a few questions for those of you who know better:
1. Which university is usually faster in decision making- NYU or Columbia? Since I will be applying only for these two, I would like to know from who can I expect more rapid response?
2. Which LLM program on NYU has a good reputation? I work in a law firm and deal with great number of different issues so I am not sure what to take. International taxation sounds interesting, as well as competition and inovation, but I do not know how useful would it be from someone who is practicing law in continental system (not common law). Does anyone from Europe have any experience in what is useful?

Thanks in advance! Looking forward to share some ideas with you

Hi,

Am also going to apply to NYU, but I have a question. Do you know how they value the applications? Is it the personal statement?

Greetings

HI everyone,

Would my 3.4 GPA be a problem for NYU admission? Should I even try? Thanks!

Hey,

My GPA is 3.26 however I applied to NYU's competition program anyways. I assume that GPA is not everything. Even my GPA is comparably lower I ranked in top 10 in graduating class and have other things in my CV. GPA may change from school to school. It was very hard to have a higher GPA in my school for example.

Therefore, I don't think you should worry because of your GPA, they consider your application as a whole and I also think that 3.4 is not bad:))

Hi gcb, Thanks for the encouragement! I was caught in between the 2 education reforms, so this is a detail the admissions committee won't know, but anyway, hope we'll succeed!

Dear all,

I have one worry on my mind due to which I can't sleep. I hope that here is some of you that will be able to help me.

My university has sent my transcripts to LSAC exactly 3 weeks ago. Avreage duration of the transfer of regitered mail from my country to Europe is 5-12 days. Several days ago, my supervisor from the University informed me that he checked on the web site of the US post and that the mail was delivered to Newtown on 4 November. However, I still did not receive any confirmation e-mail from LSAC.

Do you know- am I supposed to receive the confirmation e-mail on the day of the receipt of the mail or only after two-three weeks (when the mail has been processed)?? My university is willing to send the transcripts again, but it will cause a significant cost for me and I do not want to spend more money if I am not sure what is going on. I have sent 3 email to LSAC and no one responded, and tried to reach them via phone but it is occupied all the time.

If anyone knows what's going on, please help!

Thanks a lot :)

Hi, based on my experience I can tell you that LSAC sends an email as soon as they get the transcripts and then another one after they have evaluated them.

You should ask your University for a tracking number to check if LSAC has effectively received the transcripts.

Take care!

Hey,

Same for me too. They sent me an email as soon as my transcripts reached them. Did your school sent your transcripts along with the request form? I had to call LSAC once, and it was easy to reach them. I think you should call them and find out what happened.

Dear people,

thanks so much for your help!! I managed to speak with the officer of LSAC today over the phone, she checked with the post and found out that my transcrips were misplaced. In the end they?ve managed to find it and now I finally have all green checkmarks on my account :)))

My application of Full time LLM 2014 is almost done... Fingers crossed to all of you :)

Hy,

I would say that the application itself is not time consuming, but it can be time consuming to manage for the documents to be sent to LSAC. It took 1.5 months for me to arrange everything (TOEFL, recommendations, transripts from two univeristies)... It is really up to you whether you think you'll be able to prepare all this... If you have cooperative people at your uni, go ahead :) The application itself will take you only 2-3 days I guess ;)

also, how unhelpful is their policy that acceptances are generally issued no later than "two weeks before the start of the semester." Seriously?

Has anybody applied for the LLM Program and submitted their application through LSAC?

I have no work experience and there is no option in Q.7 for 'no work experience'. The online application has only date fields and as I am currently in my final year of law i am not employed. The application doesn't get submitted unless that section is complete. I have also emailed the graduate admissions office.. But please help!

Thanks!
