Hello everyone, I'm 98% sure that I'll be attending NYU this fall. So I guess that I'll most of you for that Intro to U.S. Law course. Anyone else from Canada going? I'd love to chat about financing this little endeavour.

I am also from Canada and will attend NYU next year (ILS LLM).
I hope to see many of you there.

anyone from Belgium going?
Posted Apr 13, 2006 20:25
Ok...I see there a lot of colleagues from India here...some Canadians, too...
Since most of us will be meeting this fall, and just out of curiosity, I'd like to know where everybody is from.
My case: born in Korea, raised in Argentina, living in Canada. (JD from a civil law country)

I'm from Taiwan and I'm in Trade Reg with IP concentration. I know now at least four Taiwanese going to NYU this year.
BTW has anyone decided to live on campus and submitted the housing application? I remember the deadline's May 15 for securing a place.

Since I started the thread I will introduce myself, i am from India and completed my LLB in 2004! I am in Intl Legal Studies!
@ postroc, I don't know if you have funding but I checked out the on-campus housing rates and they seem to be very expensive to me! Is there anyone opting for On-campus housing here? Some of us could even pool for an apartment. Would like to have your opinions on this! Thanks

Re housing, I consulted a current LLM student at NYU and he strongly recommended on-campus housing. He also said that although D'Agostino Hall is slightly nearer to the law school buildings, I should definitely take Mercer Residence, where the rooms are bigger. Below are some of his other comments: the safe, convenient, and collegial atmosphere will make one feel worthwhile with regard to the higher prices; the on-campus residences offer all you need; if you calculate 1000 Dollars for off-campus housing
plus Internet, Cable TV, highly expensive off-campus laundry facilities, and hundreds of other features you will have to pay for on your own if you live off-campus, you can conclude that it is not only easier but also cheaper to live on campus. Moreover, living separated from all the other LL.M.s and J.D.s is not that fun. I know only two fellow
colleagues who chose to rent rooms on their own and they are all not really satisfied. Besides, living in your own apartment is riskier since you almost cannot hold accountable your landlord. For all these reasons
I counsel you to opt for quality-of-life and security--law school housing.
I found the above comments quite informative and have (almost) decided to take on-campus living. Another other thoughts anyone?

Anushka, did you ever contact Columbia regarding your file? You made the right choice with NYU, far more respected in NY. I predict in a few years it will permanently surpass Columbia in the ratings indices. The administration at Columbia is the worst in the country, absolutely despicable given the experiences of those on this board. An embarrassment to the Ivy league.

Anushka, I`m planning to arrive the first week of August. As far as I know, you have to pay a daily rate if tou want to arrive before the 27th. Is that correct? What are your plans?

coco: rejection from cls by email...and yeh, i agree with you.
castel: i still don't know exactly...but surely before the 27th.

I am from Seoul, Korea, and will be in NY as early as mid-June...I will have I-20 from NYU SCPS American Language Institute (ALI) first, and then will transfer F-1 status to that of NYU Law upon completing ALI course...with my wife and two children, I think I must be settling in Newport, New Jersey...
well, I was originally admitted to general studies pgm, but I am also considering changing it to corporate studies because I am pretty much interested in the alumni mentor pgm NYU plans to begin with corporate pgm students...
anybody has any idea on the alumni mentor pgm mentioned in their admission letter?
