hi there, I'm from Ireland - doing International Legal Studies. I've applied for Mercer as a former student recommended it to me.

Hi everyone, I'm from Ireland too and will be in the ILS programme. I'd like to open a few things for comment -
- Does it strike anyone as slightly off that estimated living expenses are $18,000 + 4/5%, yet rent for a room in campus accomodation (and it is just a room - not much living space!) will cost between $14,000 and $20,000 for nine months? This just does not compute with the cost of living in NYC and the added expense of law school attendance - i.e. books, laptop requirement. It strikes me that it might be easy to exceed their estimates... what does everyone think?
- Also wondering if many people are doing Intro to US Law, and would anyone like to share any views they have on course selection?
See you in the Village, everyone!

Hi, all. Just to share with you. I will live off-campus by taking the lease from a friend who studies at NYU and lives 30 minutes away by subway from the law school. Monthly rental, - US&500! I can take subway to law school very easily. Room quality is a little better, but much bigger than the dorm. I was told the dorm is really too too small. Not strange, MYU Law is really at the downtown. One of my fridend's husband was in NYU Law last year. He finished one year study and bar exam with USD 18000! Of course, living off-campus. He said it's helpful to communicate with average Americans and learn how they live and work. Knowing the soceity is vital for understanding the legal environment in NY. So, don't be afraid to living off-campus.

can anyone suggest if is there any site or reference to look for off-campus housing?
i would love to stay on-campus yet family members might come to NY often while I study there, and it'd be a problem if im sharing the apt with a fellow student...and bigger studios are assigned for "family housing"...and in my case its not that i'll be the entire year like that...so off-campus sounds a better idea...but since i dont know the city nor know anynone there, "googling" for an apt. seems a bit unsafe...
can anyone help me with this one by giving some reference as to where to start searching? Thanks a lot. See you at NYU.

Hey anushka ,
you can refer to this site ..http://newyork.craigslist.com/jsy/roo.
it seems to be a very popular site and very useful , lot of friends have suggested that to me...btw wud u mind sharing a bigger apartment if you decide about off-campus housing?
...one of my friends living in jersey city told me that a two bed room partment if shared would be around $600-650 per person! Hope this is useful

Hi everybody!
My name is Luciana, I am from Argentina and I too will be joining NYU's LLM in International Legal Studies this year.
As for housing, I will be living off-campus, in the upper west side, ´cause of course apartments are much cheaper and bigger. As aurora said, it is really striking that they suggest that the liviing expenses are aprox $ 18000 a year and yet the on-campus housing is much more expensive!!
Haven't made up my mind about courses yet! I want to do them all! Any good or bad reviews on faculty of the ILS program?
Regards,

Hi everyone - I will be attending NYU in the fall (international legal studies), assuming I can come up with the money -- it is a rather daunting task.
Oh, and I need to introduce myself, I suppose. I'm from Mississippi, and received my J.D. from the University of Mississippi this past May.
I look forward to seeing you all soon.

Hello everybody, I am from Brazil and I will be attending the Corporation Law program.
Few points to consider as to housing:
Living in the NYU housing you will have available a variety of things that will make your life easier (laundry, internet, TV - if we have the time - all in the same place).
I need to check this but I think eletric bill, heating and other facilities are also included in the NYU housing price (not loundry). So maybe we can consider that for price comparison.
Hope to see you all in NYC.

Hi I have been accepted for the LLM-ILS and am from India. have been following all your posts regularly but have become a member recently.
Was wondering what housing options people are thinking of cause to me the on-campus option is seeming too expensive.
Anyone else thinking of taking up off campus housing? Does anyone have any idea on the areas i should zero in on?
Also is anyone thinking of taking up the Citi Asset loan option or has any idea about it? Would it be better than taking up a bank loan here?
If any one has any thoughts on the above, it would be a great help
Thanks

Tanika,
In relation to housing, I personaly believe housing on campus is more cost efficient - even if the numbers may be higher than a apartment rent off campus. As I mention before, living on NYU housing may offer facilities that an aparment will not.
Now as to the loan, I might as well be applying for the CitiAssist loan. Please note that NYU advised the student to wait until June to request such loan.
If you want more info. please acess the NYU web site and check the information proviede by the University in the Chat on line discussion. There is a lot of useful information there.
If you dont know how to reach this part of the site, let me know that I guide you through.

I got the materials re choosing classes and it looks like the lottery registartion opens next week. But since it is a "lottery" am I correct in assuming that it makes no difference how early you register your class preferences? I understand that as long as you do it before the deadline you have an equal chance of getting the classes you want?
does anyone agree?
