LLM - Financial aid

GML

Hi,
I've applied to the universities that offer some sort of financial aid to international LLM students. Has somebody else applied for finacial aid from the universities? Have you got any offers? I've got two offers of admission, from Michigan and Missouri-Columbia, but they're saying thay have not yet decided about scholarships.
Do you have more information about how I could finance the LL.M.? What are your arrangements?
Thanks a lot

hi mari_gri......i've applied to Columbia and NYU and go accepted both places.....NYU gave me a ten grand award and Columbia said that they would let me know about the financial aid decisons by mid april. You can also apply for a loan by having an american citizen or a permanent resident act as a co-signer.

Have you by chance heard about a loan without an American cosigner?

I think it is possible to draw such a loan if you do an LLM at Yale. Not sure about others. I once saw a loan product without a co-signor, but it was not available to us, CEE/CIS nationals (I am Russian).

i havent heard about any regular loans without co-signers....but you should get intouch with the college that you want to go to and tell them the situation and ask them.....maybe they can reccomend a certain kind of loan program.......i'm sure there must be some kind of loophole....there always is.

Most law schools offer loans to international students upto the full costs of attendance provided the student has a US co signer.

Some loans are given by the University itself for example Northwesten is an insitutional lender, wheras NYU and Columbia put the students through to a few private lenders like Citibank and Accessloans.

NYU also offers loans upto 15,000 $ through a private lender if the international student does not have a US co signer.

Hope this information helps you !!!

i can tell you that both NYU and Columbia have made offers for scholarships. I know that COlumbia has gone as high as $25,000, to someone who is probably not going there. As for NYU, 3 people I know got a full ride on their Vanderbilt scholarship. Stanford and CHicago have a reputation of being quite selective with their scholarships, and give them only rarely.
