HARVARD X STANFORD/COLUMBIA

Could you please give some thoughts about the profile/program of each university?
Which one is considered "the best one"?

I has been accepted into Columbia, but I am still waiting Harvard/Stanford responses!

Thank you!!!!

why not add yale...and nyu ... and oxford. wait, why not add the T14

abstract comparisons are meaningless. if you are focussed on a specific area of study the answer will be obvious. Fin aid plays a role as well. until then this is counting chickens before they hatch

Thanks!!

I know that, but I would like to have an idea about the students "profile" of each university...
maybe some alumni can also help me with that.

I recommend you to look at the current LLM class profile of HLS. It is in their website. This will give you good level of detail. The same profile could apply for Columbia and I think a bit more requirements for Stanford.

Best,
H

If you are approved in Harvard or Stanford, forget about Columbia. If you approved in Harvard and Stanford, it is a difficult but good question. Harvard is a better brand globally, Stanford better brand locally. It seems to me that both
schools admire each other, I would base decisions on practice area and future plans. Stanford focus more on law firm placements than Harvard, this is something I can tell you.

It depends on what you want to do afterwards I think. Harvard is, of course, very strong academically but it is not proactive about connecting you professionally in the U.S. If your aim to get into the New York professional circuit, particularly V5 firms, you would be much better off at Columbia. The country's most prestigious law firms are head-quartered in New York, many partners of top law firms lecture there, New York is a global centre of finance, home to the United Nations etc. If you are looking to work West Coast, you would obviously be better off at Standford. If the LLM is purely academic for you and you plan to return to your home country right away, then go to Harvard. Harvard almuni have told me that have felt very separate from the JD-ers and other graduate schools on campus. Some love that Cambridge bubble and others find it too much of step back from their former professional life. They're all great schools so I would just think about what suits you. Sunshine in Stanford or snow boots at Harvard?! Feeling comfortable and inspired by your working and living environment is really important to the success of the year.
