Last year, Harvard Law School changed its grading system, abandoning letter grading in favour of the broader categories High Pass, Pass, Low Pass and Fail. Many commentators thought that the change was part of an attempt to create a less cutthroat academic environment.

This semester Harvard has re-instituted a more traditional grading scale, with a numerical point value given for each grade: five points for each Deans Scholar Prize credit, four for each Honors credit, three per Pass credit, two for a Low Pass credit, and zero for a Failing grade.

Unlike last years grade reform which was wildly publicised this latest change was not even announced, and Harvard Law School has come under criticism for lack of transparency.

The school has also come under attack for its decision to withhold information from students who, unlike prospective employers, will not have access to their GPAs.
