Hi,
I'm a belgian student currently in 1st year of master. Unfortunately for some reason I failed my first year of LLB then passed my 3 years and achieved my LLB with an average grade of 60% (out of 100).
Do you think that failing that year may ruin my chances to get admitted into a US law school ? What about my low grades ?
I'm planing on applying to NYU, Berkeley, Cardozo, Duke, UCLA, Fordham, Florida State U. All in IP law specialization
Thanks you !
Failed a year.

The schools you listed belong to the group of top 20 schools in US - all of which require considerable amount of academic excellence in the previous years of law school. However, a good application and a personal statement with adequate recommendations might get you in - but I would not count on considerable financial help. Scholarships and grants are reserved for top quality candidates and this is a fact of life :(!
Additionally, work on your extracurricular activities - this is said to be of great value in applying!
Best of luck!

Thank you for you answer !
As for my extracurricular activities I got an internship in an international law firm specialized in IP Law and will do another internship in september in the US (Monroe, Connecticut)... I hope that can help..
Another fact, which as nothing to do with the legal world but I heard that american universities care about those stuff is that I'm a former competitive cyclist... Idk If I should mention it or not in the applications (this is obviously related to the low grades of my Bachelor's degree and would be a good point to explain my character in the personal statement).
Thanks Again stellarlights !
