Does the review constitute an "early decision" or "early action"? Law schools use different terminology and the admissions policy varies per school. Perhaps you should check the CLS web site to determine whether "early review" is binding on those applicants who opt for it in their application. They usually indicate it in the section for prospective students.

Hey this waiting is really very irritating.
Anybody has any idea when will the regular cyle results will start coming? I mean do they also come on a rolling basis?
NYU results for singapore (nyu@nus) applicants should have been out by now...its pretty late this time.....

I too was deferred to the regular admission cycle. I am wondering what the acceptance rate has been in the past for those deferred. Also, does anyone know if CLS issued any rejections during the early review, or if those of us who never got admitted were all deferred...In the e-mail I received, they state that most of their admission decisions will be made by early April, meaning some of us might have to await decisions until March or April. I got into Georgetown, but I really wish I could get accepted at CLS!

Hi snowie,
this year I think it's a little bit exceptional because, from what I have heard, they have received more applications than ever in the past. I guess that they are deferring a lot of people to the regular cycle in order to be sure to admit only the right ones.
I know that it is a long wait but trust me it is worth it!

Pitch,
What is your status? Did you apply to CLS and were you accepted through the early review?

Hello everyone. Maybe some of you remember me from last year's posts.
I was admitted to CLS last year, but deffered my admission to the 2009/2010 academic year. I had my deferral ratified last month and will be joining CLS next summer!
Best of luck to those waiting for an answer and hope to meet those who were already admitted. By the way, I am from Brazil.

Menos uma vaga pro Brazil?
Posted Jan 07, 2009 19:23
Acho que não!
I guess geographical quotas are more guiding principles than cogent rules. There were some 12 Brazilians admitted to CLS last year, so do not worry too much.
Boa sorte!

Hey Pitch its quite a relief to have you here to answer our queries....the answers can now be less speculative.........anyways i wanted to ask you 2 things....I have been deferred to the regular cycle this year.
Firstly, when can i expect a reply from CLS now...will they review all the regular applicants and then reply or can the deferred applicant expect early reply on rolling basis?
Secondly, What are my chances of getting any scholarship funding? I suppose that the admitted early reviewed applicants are the only ones who get good scholarship amount. Correct me if i'm wrong......

Hi Pitch, can you give us an idea as to how CLS approaches towards its applicants in terms of regional preferences. Is there an internal policy to keep a max % of south americans, europeans, asians etc or is it somewhat on countrywise basis?

Pitch,
How many were accepted in your entering class? Are you specializing in any field or are you taking the general LLM course?

I have been deferred to the regular cycle, and I like to know:
1) When do you think deferred applications will be review or considered again? Before, after or simultaneously with the applications of those who applied in the regular cycle?
2) What kind of answer could we expect? I mean, only accepted/rejected or we could be waitlisted (I have read CLS website and they didnt mention waitlist)
3) If we are putting into the waitlist (and I dont know if they have one), we could know that decision now (Jan. Feb.), or only when the regular admission cycle is over (March or April)
Thanks

I am naturally pessimistic, so I view the deferral as a partial rejection.
1) My guess is that they will be reviewed altogether, since they seem to save most of the places for regular cycle, and if you were not rejected, it means you are by no means a second class candidate.
2) Columbia seems to have every spot filled in its class, so there has to be at least an informal waitlist they do(some people they do not reject, but also delay acceptance)
3) My guess is that waitlisted people will be the last to know.

Don't be pessimistic, you still have a lot of chances...just this year is going to be really hard to get in because of the highest number ever of applications!
Posted Jan 20, 2009 21:38
Pitch,
Do you know how many applications were submitted this year and how many people will be admitted?
Thank you,

I have received a mail stating that "We aim to notify all applicants as to the receipt of their application
materials by late January". that means they will take time and only admit some students who are up to the mark to qualify for their standared among early reveiw applicants...

To everyone who has received an admission:
I founded a CLS group "Class of 2010" just a few days ago and we are 7 until now. There's also a group on FB, but I could not sign up to that one (you need to be approved by the admin first).
I will promote the group in the other forums as well and hope some more join!

Good luck to everyone still waiting!
