Chicago LLM 2013/2014

chicagollm

@chicagollm my question is: When should we expect to receive offers for Chicago? In Richard's email it says they start early february. Is it possible to receive offers before then?Thx

I got my offer in first week of February. From what i remember Prof. Badger sent an email few days before the decisions were supposed to be announced.

Guys please stop asking such 'noob' type questions and read the FAQ sections of the law school website.

Can I do a specialized LLM at Chicago?
Unlike a number of other law schools, the University of Chicago does not offer specialized graduate degree programs with a large number of graduate courses in a particular field such as taxation or securities regulation.

All I am saying is that ask such questions whose answers are not so obvious that even the University FAQs cover it. If you have applied then the least you would have done was to read the section of prospective student carefully. Not sure why you are offended. Its due diligence 101.

Okay, so do you find the students cut-throat competitive? What's your favorite course this term?

LL.Ms not really, everyone has difference priorities and since we have a smaller class size compared to other top univs, there is a sense of community as well. My favorite course this quarter is Economic Analysis of the Law. You have to do economics in Chicago. The law school in the world which has Nobel Laureate as a teaching faculty (and no he doesnt take this course).

Chicago is my first/second priority university. I can't wait to receive an e-mail offering me admission :) although the admission process is really competitive, I am still hoping for the best :-) Both Columbia and Chicago could make me very happy :)

Every top school is a long wait. Maybe except UCLA and Duke, which I have applied to and probably will be sending admissions by January. I think the waiting is worth it :) Just think how fun it will be receiving admission in march :) hope for the best!

And by the way, I have thought about it, and if Columbia and Chicago will both offer me admission, I will freak out....

Yes it is worth the wait!! I just hope the news will be good when we all finally find out :) Columbia or Chicago could definitely make me very happy as well, although I think Chicago is more likely than Columbia, you never know!

Just got an email from Richard this morning regarding the application review process and more. I understand they will start sending admission offers beginning early February.

I got that e-mail too (it was a really nice e-mail, actually). Just one question: I thought Chicago made admissions on a rolling basis, but according to Richard's e-mail it is not.

I believe that he meant that they will make a couple of collective decisions, in several days beginning in February. I think it is still on rolling basis.

I think that studying in Chicago is a great experience, judging from the way they treat applicants, with detailed information, and periodical mails from Richard, really makes me favor Chicago so far.

On top of that, add Chicago deep dish pizza, which makes my mouth water everytime I see those photos (recommended!):

I have also thought about Richard's e-mail. He pointed out that this year's pool has 77 countries represented in it. It means that they have to take one person from each country to fill their LLM class, or they have to neglect some countries and admit more several people from some countries. What do you think?

ya ya even I thought of that! but as far as I know they do take more than just one from a few countries (like last year from India). So I guess even though they look for a good ethnic mix, they care a lot more for the profile of the candidate.
