Hi everyone,
I am just admitted by Fordham for Corporate program without scholarship. I looked up on its website and the official budget for year 2008-2009 is USD 65,000 minimum. Given the high living expense in NYC and possible raise on the tuition, together with the cost of NY Bar, can anyone give me an idea about the budget for year 09-10?
My budget is about USD55,000, just wondering if fordham is too much for me ...
Budget for Fordham LLM fall 2009?

Hi Wayne. Have you tried with private loans or other scolarships?? although Fordham is quite expensive, it´s a great university and it´s in NYC which is the best city to study in the US -at least that´s what i believe-
By the way, when did you receive your admission?? did they send you an e-mail? i have also applied to Fordham but in the IP program an ´m still waiting!!.

I don't know about tuition at Fordham but here's something to think about.
Housing $1 500 a month is not too much for someone who is hoping to live on Manhattan (and not in a dorm).
Food and personal expenses, I should say at least $600 a month. This is of course highly debatable. Just know that you'll spend a lot of money if you want the full NY-experience (means eating out a lot).
Health insurance, somewhere in the $2 000 range for the year.
NY Bar Exam course fee (BarBri), $4 500 (see www.barbri.com) + extra rent, insurance, living expenses for mid May - end of July.

I received an email from fordham on 10th this month, stating I will need to confirm this admission in 3 weeks time. I m thinking of writing to fordham to defer it to at least a month.... do not know if it will work.
I still want to wait for other schools' decision.
what do u guys suggest me doing?

congrats for your admission!!
I think that send an e-mail and wait for their response would be the best option. Last week I asked them for my admission process and they answered me during the same day...maybe you could obtain a quick answer and then decide...

I´m not sure about the summer program. There is a spring2009 program that has already started. Maybe you should wait until spring2010...

Anyone else admitted to Fordham Fall 2009?

APPLE: (or anyone else for that matter) would you consider the Barbri course a must if I want to sit for the bas exam?
Can the NY bar exam be passed by a foreign lawyer from a civil law country after his LLM (in my case, with no real or professional experience in common law)?
Good luck with Fordham

Fajats,
I found some good pages for you to look at if you haven't.
http://www.law.yale.edu/documents/pdf/CDO_Public/LLMs_and_NY_bar.pdf
http://www.law.yale.edu/documents/pdf/CDO_Public/NY_Bars_Basic_Courses_in_American_Law_Requirement.pdf
http://www.law.columbia.edu/current_student/GLS/bar
I think that it is possible to take the Bar without BarBri or the like. I also heard about this one guy who stuffed his ipod with all BarBri lectures (the BarBri course means that you'll watch videos of a professors giving lectures) and studied for the Bar at home. I would imagine that for a civil trained lawyer, it is best to take BarBri on location so that one can study with classmates etc but that is of course up to your preferences. Remember that Bar passage rates announced on law school websites do usually not include LL.M. students. If your native language is not English, I would assume that the Bar is not a walk in the park (but not impossible either). Study hard!

Apple!:
You've been really helpful, I cant thank you enough for the info. I'm still deciding which LLM programs I'm going to apply to next fall, but this helps me clear up doubts I had.
Good luck and thank you,

hey, wayne. I think we're admitted to the same program. Corporate in Fordham. So have u made ur final decision yet? and how's the deferral? 'coz I'm asking the for the same thing. I need more time to think about it since it's very expensive and of course, wait for other schools. so plz just let me know if ur in Fordham, or not.

Hey lareine, congratulations on your admission to fordham, I wrote to the admission officer for a extension and they extended it to Feb 28. I am still waiting for other schools like GWU, BU and vanderbilt, where are less expensive or more reputable~
when did you receive your admission letter? you might also want to write for a deferral and think it is quite positive that they will give you one. good luck on that!

I go to Fordham for fall 2009 (LLM international business and trade) I am still waiting for the NYU decision.
Ps: I did not apply this year but last year and I asked for a one-year deferal. So do not worry if you still don't have a decision letter.

Hi guys! I was admitted to Fordham, got the email yesterday (Fall/2009 program). I applied to the International Law and Justice program (and by mistake the letter I received says I was admitted to International Buss and Trade Law....).
I have 3 weeks to make the deposit and I want to ask them to extend that too, I'm still waiting for other schools... Did anyone get an extension beyond Feb.28? Did anyone heard about scholarships? Thanks!
