Has any foreign lawyer applied to the Boston College School of Law LLM program? If yes, how good is it? I have applied and they told me that they are likely to be interested in my candidacy. The final decision will be taken only after a brief "telephonic conversation". I do not know what to expect. Is there anyone who has any idea abt the college and its process? Your help will be truly appreciated.

I haven't applied to Boston, but you should expect at least some of the regular questions of university interviews:
-why Boston college ?
-why do you want to study ?
-what got you into law?
-what do you want to do after your LLM? Short term ? Long term?
etc.

Thank You Aky for your help. I will now prepare for the interview better.
Btw, do you have any idea if the LLM students who have their first law degree from a non-US university can practice after their OPT on H1B visa? if yes, who sponsors it?
And is it necessary to pass the NY/California bar exam in order to be able to work in a firm or a company?

Hi K!!
I am from Germany and have just recently applied to BC. I got an email confirmation today that they received my application but are still missing one LoR. We'll see how it goes.
Did they already review your application and gave you the thumbs up or was it the ready for review email (which was phrased very friendly, I agree)?
About OPT/H1B: Afaik and from what I have researched the OPT employer can apply to get an H1B visa for his/her OPT candidate if he wants him/her to stay on for a few more years. There's only a limited number of H1B visas however and it has to be done within a certain time period. The visa will also be issued 6 months after the successful application meaning that there is a gap period between end of OPT and start of H1B. It's a grace period which allows you to stay in the country but does not allow you to re-enter if I remember correctly.
Whether admission to a bar is needed/expected is up to the employer I guess. New York and some other states also let you take the bar after an LL.M.
H1B is a working visa. Nobody sponsors your stay, you get paid for your work. From what I heard (or have I actually read it on this forum?) there is no fixed salary for international associates but salaries will be somewhere around 20-30 percent off a regular beginner's salary. Probably depends on the position though.
Hope that helped. Good luck with the interview!

Hi Miss Chatterbox
Thank you very much for all the information you've given me.
I received the ready to review email about 2 weeks ago. This email was sent after reviewing my application. They said they are interested in taking me in, but before they decide they want to have a telephonic conversation with me. So i'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping the conversation goes well.. :)
All the best to you for your application.

Hi Miss Chatterbox,
My interview went ok. I dont know exactly what they expected me to answer but i hope i did well.. :) The lady who interviewed me was very sweet and friendly to talk to which made things a little easier for me, as I was nervous. Anyway, they said they will be in touch in a couple of weeks once the next lot of decisions are ready..
Good luck to you. :)
