UCLA is increasing their llm profile to get some international exposure and also to increase their revenue since the state cut down on their funding in the Cali crisis. 2007 was 60 llms, 2008 80llms and this year around 150.
If you're still on wait list, then dont worry ... in 2008 some of my friends from Europe got their acceptance in mid to late June.

Hilgard,
Your comments are encouraging but whats the basis of your thought that UCLA will admit 150 candidates this year. I really do understand your arguments related to California economic crisis and cut in education budget for University system but hey, 150 is still a huge number for university that admitted only 55-60 students last year.
I'll appreciate your comments based on your experience and interactions. Thanks.

Hi Bliss and Noemie,
Consider that a blessing in disguise folks, if you had any intention to continue your stay in US and find a job afterwards. I am sure you must have some sort of plan to work after spending some part of your savings or loans.
Trust me, I had conversation with a good number of UCLA grads from this year class and last year and most of them advised me its just not right time to come and study if you want to find work after the program. And I am sure nobody just come US to experience life style but to enjoy the time as well as get some smart return on their investment on education as well. Enjoy your time and work for one more year, make your resume more stellar and apply to east coast schools next year. I am sure by that time you'll be appropriately timed and this economy will also learn to behave.
Goodluck and think you saved yourself from putting your savings in tank.
