Oxford BCL/MJur 2017-2018 Applicants

Axolotl

So, what kind of academic backgrounds/CVs do people have here? Is my maths correct that it's roughly 486 1st class applicants striving for around 170 offers?

1st class for my LLB from a (and arguably the) top law school in Australia (ranked within top 4% of 234 students). Currently studying Masters of Law where I have topped several subjects there. They put a lot of weight on your references and your academic writing. I'm hoping that my references have sway given they are all BCL graduates and one of them is the Dean of the law school I studied at.

Worked as a litigation lawyer for several years and have been appointed a judge associate for 2019. But they do not put any weight to non-academic interests or professional experience save for it revealing some future academic achievement - see https://www.law.ox.ac.uk/admissions/postgraduate/postgraduate-admission-faqs.

That's a ferocious CV.

I sincerely doubt you have very much to worry about, regardless of references.

Guys, you have very impressive CVs!
Now I'm felling totally hopeless of getting in hahaha
Just a question: in my country, the grading system varies from 0-10. Do you know what would be equivalent to a 1st class degree?

Does anyone know whether the MJur decisions will be released together with the BCL decisions? And if so, could we expect them to release them upcoming week?

I (and I guess other postgraduate applicants as well) received an email about some clarification on a scholarship application procedure, in which they also stated that all the candidates will be communicated about the outcome by March 17.

I believe we will hear something this week. The abovementioned date is confirmed by the FAQ on the postgraduate website of Oxford:

"The admissions process is complex and can take some time. We have many applications to read and compare. For the BCL, MJur, and MSc Law and Finance, you can expect to hear from the Faculty around 18 March."

I assumed everyone had received this email:

"To applicants for Law Postgraduate courses

It has been brought to our attention that the information that was communicated to us regarding the Mr and Mrs Kenny Lam Graduate Scholarship and which then appeared on our website was incorrect – it suggested that there was no separate application process for the scholarship whereas in fact, those wishing to be considered for this scholarship do need to complete an application by 10 March.

For further details, please refer to www.stcatz.ox.ac.uk/Scholarships-and-bursaries/Postgraduate/More-info#HowToApply

Please note that you should not interpret this message as meaning we intend to offer you a place on the course to which you applied. We are still in the process of assessing graduate applications and are not in a position to report any decisions at this point, but will let all candidates know whether they have been successful or unsuccessful by 17 March."

I think we will get an update this week. The e-mail re scholarship and the graduate website of Oxford both suggest that.
