I still haven't heard anything from any college... should I be worried? I guess that in any case I can always rent a room in a shared house I guess :(

Please don't confuse "being a member of a College" with "living in a College room".
Every student in every course at Oxford is a member of a College. Some of those students live in College housing, some do not. But if you have been admitted to an Oxford degree, they will find you membership at a College. It will then be up to that individiual College to offer you a room to stay in or not - and rest assured that most will.

I'm so excited! I'm in St John's but I have yet to satisfy the conditional offer.
What is everyone planning for Oxford? Are many people living in private accommodation? What courses on the BCL seem most popular? Are there many people intending to take the dissertation?
Excitement! :-D

Hey HelpMeImPoor,
Firstly, congratulations on getting St Johns! When did you find out your college assignment?
I too have yet to comply with the offer, but only because I don't yet have a college and haven't received the necessary info regarding the financial conditions! Generally though, I hope to stay within my college if possible, otherwise in graduate accomodation.
There is a thread on the modules on this forum which may be worth a look if you're not sure what to go for, but I'm definitely not going for the dissertation! How about you, have you got a rough idea of modules yet?

Hey Procedurelle, I've known about St John's for about a month now, but it's only just sinking in now, as my finals are just over. As for you not having a college assignment yet, you might be interested to hear a friend on the BCL this year (11/12) did not receive her college place until mid-August, and ended up in Oriel, but I don't think that time frame is in any sense the norm.
I broadly have my modules picked too - I hope to try my hand at the dissertation, but have yet to pick a topic!
It's so refreshing to speak to someone else going through the excitement of it all. I haven't been able to speak to anyone while I wait to satisfy the blasted conditions! X

Hello all,
I still haven't been assigned to a college, and was wondering if there was anyone else in the same situation.
thank you

Hi Dmagalhaes,
I hope that you are well. I am still awaiting college assignment and, I must say, getting very frustrated by the whole situation, as I am sure many others are too.
I have taken to chasing them now, as I was assured by Graduate Admissions that I would have a college place by no later than the end of June; and if it still wasn't sorted, to speak to them again.
I have spoken to them on numerous of occasions now, only to be told that there are a lot of us who are without college placements for BCL and MJur, and so we should just sit and wait.
Not very helpful I know, but I hope that it helps to reassure you that you are not alone in this!!

HI everyone,
Just wondering - is anyone electing to do the dissertation on the BCL. What modules are good to select?

Hello there,
just a quick question for all you successful applicants entering the Oxford MJur class of 2012/2013:
Did any of you travel to Oxford personally to present yourselves to the admissions tutors of your colleges of choice?
I read in at least two reports of former German MJur students that although it is not officially communicated that way it still is considered very helpful and almost mandatory to show up at Oxford personally in order to succeed with your application.
Judging from your first hand experience: Is that true? Did any of you successful applicants travel to Oxford in the course of your application to talk to the admissions people?
Many thanks for your advice and all the best for your upcoming studies!
Best regards, Eppendorf

Hi Eppendorf,
I never met any admissions people and got an offer for MJur, although I decided for MCL at Cambridge instead. Hope this is of help.
Best regards,
Tynagh

Never. Although I got an offer only for the MLF and not for the MJur.

You do *not* need to do this.
By all means visit Oxford to see if you would be happy living there as a place to spend a year of your life, but admissions people at the college and faculty level will be confused by you arriving under any sense of obligation. They'll provide you with publicly-available information (ie, brochures that can be found online) but there will be no strings pulled on your behalf.
