Here's a question to keep us busy speculating until the offers roll out. What are the differences in admissions criteria between the BCL and the US LLMs, if any? I've heard that Oxford puts more emphasis on grades while the US LLM admission departments give more weight (relatively speaking) to factors such as publications, work experience, and the like. Personally, I'm kinda hoping this to be the case since my grades are probably the strongest part of my application. What do people think about this?
BTW, I'm in at NYU and got rejected by Harvard today. Still waiting on the BCL. Happy St. Patricks Day to all!

Hey
I called Oxford today - said decision are to be made by Friday....so i guess most people will know next week at some point!
Though saying this I just got rejected by NYU....so Im not too hopeful of getting a BCL offer...
Did they give any indication as to how the notifications will be sent? Email, post?

Hi everyone
I've read through the previous posts and pages and I came to the following conclusion.
Some of you said the 20th is the deadline BEFORE which we will hear from Oxford. Others stated that date as the date AFTER which the offers will come through.
Some of you were certain the decisions will be in the form of an e-mail, others thought a letter in the post will be way in which we will find out the verdict.
In short, everything is unsure..
That's about my summary :)

Hi Guys....just to clear some bit of the uncertainity...i called up oxford yesterday....they said they will be dispatching "letters" this friday....these will be both acceptance and rejection "letters"...on a specific query whether they will be emails or letters by post....the office said that they would be letters in post....so unless the guy at the graduate admissions office is pulling a fast one on me...this should be the procedure oxford is at least following!

I refuse to believe this - after all, that would mean that Jagsmehn was wrong? If our noble editor cum leader was wrong why have we been listening to him - what else has he been wrong about? ;)

That's a little strange, when I emailed ox early in February to ask them if I must send my fall sem transcripts, I got a reply saying that my application was deemed to be complete and was "being considered as a part of the January applications" and also that I would hear from the Department "in writing" sometime "after" 20th March 2009. This was on 9th February, 2009. What does that mean then? Am I reading too much into it?
Posted Mar 18, 2009 15:14
Oh, they also said that if I had my final transcript available, I could scant it and send it to them on the same email address.

Just flipped through the previous posts. Email with similar language posted by Tigerland. Also read BIG SUZE's comment about emails with letters attached. So I guess and hope that I am reading too much into the email received by me in February.
All the best to everyone!

My guess is that. in a competitive market where Yale, Harvard, Cambridge and all the other top unis e-mail or call you, Oxford cannot afford to lose a bright mind because of mail lateness or inefficiency
Posted Mar 18, 2009 16:10
Dont worry too much...Even an e-mail is in writing... ;-)

Guys
Just so you are aware, these hilarious misunderstandings about bureaucracy are part of everyday life as a student in Oxford - part of its charm - they do not finish just because you get in to the BCL!
Good luck with your applications and remember there are many other fine masters programs out there.
